Hills Netball Finals
This week sees the Hills Netball season draw to a close, but not before one last dose of scintillating action down on the Pennant Hills Park courts. We have three teams in action, with Loreto 9 taking on Beecroft in the 14/2’s Grand Final and then it’s an all-Normo showdown as Loreto 13 takes on Loreto 14 for the right to be crowned 13/4’s champion! Best of luck to all girls involved.
I also want to extend a big thank you to everyone who has been involved in Hills Netball this season. Our coaching staff have done a great job under the direction of Sport Administrator Tim Higgins. Thanks to the members of the committee, including Tracey Hartshorne who has done a wonderful job of coordinating our fantastic umpires, and Katrina Travers who attended HDNA meetings.
Bring on Season 2019!
The 2018 Snowsports season wrapped up over the weekend and what a way to finish! Dominique Rossell (Year 11) made it all the way to the Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships and left it all on the mountain, finishing an amazing 12th overall in the Division 1 Snowboard GS. What a fantastic result!
As one season finishes, another one is just around the corner and it’s never too early to start planning! The 2019 Interschools Snowsports Calendar has been confirmed:
– Northern NSW Interschools Snowsports Championships: 9th – 14th July @ Perisher
– NSW State Interschools Snowsports Championships: 20th – 25th July @ Perisher
– Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships: 4th – 8th September @ Victoria Resort TBD
If you would like to get involved in the 2019 Snowsports season or would like any more information about opportunities to ski or snowboard for Loreto Normanhurst, send an email to Loreto Sport.
CIS Primary Athletics
A huge congrats to our superstar Primary athletes who represented IPSHA at the CIS Primary Athletics Carnival on Thursday. Emily Paterson (Year 5), Lucia Van Der Heiden (Year 6) and Sofia Storgato (Year 5) all did incredibly well and represented their school and association with pride. The highlight of the day was Lucia absolutely crushing the 12/13 Girls High Jump and bringing home the gold! She will now go on to represent CIS at the NSW PSSA Athletics Championships in October. Way to go girls!
We have our fingers and toes crossed for Tatum Bird (Year 12), Jessica Drummond (Year 12) and Lauren Marshall (Year 12) who are away representing NSWCIS at the National Youth Championships on the Sunshine Coast this week. At the time of going to press, the NSWCIS team was sitting 4th and needed a top two finish to qualify for the championship rounds so best of luck to those three girls!
On Monday, we also have the next generation of Normo Touch talent on show at the Year 7/8 NSW All Schools Touch Championships at North Parramatta. The girls will be angling for a top result to get them through to the state final later in the year so good luck to the squad for that.
state trampoline gymnastics
Congratulations to Jennifer Fairbairn (Year 7) who competed in the Trampoline Gymnastics State Levels Championships last weekend. Jennifer placed 2nd in Trampolining and 4th in Double Mini Trampolining for level 5 skills. A fantastic effort!
correct sport uniform
An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:
Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will not be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport Staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
LORETO SPORTS GIRL: Kiara Barnes
Current sport/activity: I currently play Rugby 7s and IGSSA netball for the school.
Favourite school sport/activity: My favourite sport at the moment is Rugby 7s. My preferred sports have always been swimming, athletics and gymnastics, which are completely different to Rugby as they are individually played. However, my passion for rugby has grown through the years.
Highest level of sporting achievement: My highest level of sporting achievement was becoming the U15 Hong Kong Champion in 100m sprint. This still would be an achievement of mine even if I did not place because the achievement on its own was to qualify in the finals for the 100m event.
Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: Participating each term in a different sport with my close friends to enjoy our Saturday sport is what I enjoy most about Loreto sport, especially the competitive yet fun nature of the team.
Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: In my family, there has always been a love for the NRL team Rabbitohs as both my uncle and dad played for this team when they were younger. Therefore, my favourite sporting moment as a spectator was the 2014 NRL grand final when the Rabbitohs won the premiership.
Best subject at school: Italian because growing up around the world and moving countries every few years has influenced my choice of learning a language. I love learning about other cultures and especially the language as it is important when travelling overseas and I want to travel after school.
Any superstitions before playing sport: I love the warm ups before playing because it makes me feel reassured for the games.
Best tune to listen to before competing: I love to listen to my playlist as it contains a lot of upbeat/pumped up music on the way to the competition because it calms my nerves and relieves stress of the competition.
We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport but, unfortunately, we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to email@example.com.
