What a day and what a result! The Loreto Normanhurst Athletics Team was in action Wednesday night and Thursday at the 95th IGSSA Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre and absolutely crushed it! The Championships got off to a fantastic start on Wednesday night with a number of girls qualifying for the finals of the hurdles and 800m. From there, the success continued with girls putting in great efforts across the track and field. With some of our more experienced athletes sidelined through injury, the entire squad pulled together and followed the instruction – “every place in every race” – to finish in 8th position overall and defending the Division 2 Point Score Trophy from 2017.

A huge congratulations to the entire squad, with special mention to Athletics Captain Eliza Harvey (Year 12), who despite a broken collarbone, was cheering on each athlete and providing amazing leadership.

Our powderhounds are back in action this week at the NSW State Interschools Snowsports Championships in Thredbo and Perisher. On Wednesday, our inaugural Cross Country ski team took on the terrain at Perisher to finish 8th overall in a very strong field in the XC Relay event. Dominque Rossell (Year 11) followed that up with a 17th place in the SnowboardX event on Thursday and we have Dominque, Eliza Rossell (Year 8) and Eva Payne (Year 11) in action today in the Div 1 Snowboard GS, Div 3 Snowboard GS and Div 1 Moguls competitions respectively. Good luck girls!

On Monday, we had four representatives in the IGSSA squads at the NSWCIS Netball Challenge Day at Homebush. Sophie Dwyer (Year 11) was a member of the IGSSA Opens squad who were victorious via a for/against countback and Charli Fidler (Year 9), Erin O’Brien (Year 9) and Grace Gillies (Year 9) all suited up for the IGSSA 15/U team that went through the day as undefeated champions. Further congratulations to Sophie and Charli who were selected into the CIS Opens and CIS 15/U teams on the day. Well done to all four girls.

Good luck to all our students who have qualified to swim at the 2018 NSW State 13 Years & Over Short Course Championships this weekend at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. One of our students who will be competing is Sarah Henry (Year 11), who is swimming in the 100m butterfly, and you can read more about Sarah below in the Loreto Sports Girl section.

Schoolgirls Rugby

Sport Captain Tatum Bird was recognised for her tremendous service to NSW Schoolgirls Rugby on Saturday night by having the honour of being the Australian flagbearer in the Bledisloe Cup match between the Wallabies and the All Blacks. It was a fantastic experience for Tatum to step out on the centre of Stadium Australia in her Loreto Normanhurst rugby uniform – we  look forward to her one day returning to the same venue in her own Australian jersey!

Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award

Congratulations to Daniella Bianchi (Year 12) who has been granted the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award! The Gold Award requires dedication and perseverance to achieve and Daniella has shown these qualities and more in attaining this award. Well done Daniella.

An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:

Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will NOT be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport Staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
