Primary Swimming Carnival
On Wednesday, the pool was pumping as the Primary School held their annual swim carnival. There was colour, noise, and most importantly, some very fast times! We had a school record broken, with Zoe Clubb (Year 6, 11 years) setting a new mark in the 11 years 50m Freestyle with a time of 33.30s. She also backed that up with a flying performance to win the Invitational 50m ‘Queen of the Pool’, contested by the fastest eight girls in the Primary School over 50m Freestyle. To round it out, Zoe joined Jessica Roche (Year 5, 10 years) and Maddison Hinds (Year 6, 12 years) as our Age Champions for the 2017 carnival – congratulations to those girls!
The all-important team awards were also hotly contested, with Dorothea being awarded the Spirit Cup for their colour and cheering and Benedicta taking out the Champion House for their performances in the pool across the day.
A big thanks to the staff from the Sport Department and the Primary School for their efforts.
Toowoomba Primary Visit
Last Friday, the Primary School played host to its first touring group – we had the pleasure of hosting Toowoomba Anglican College and Preparatory School (TACAPS) as they toured NSW and the ACT. There were two fantastic contests held, with the Loreto basketballers taking the win, but going down to the TACAPS netball squad.
A big thanks to the team at TACAPS for offering us this opportunity and thanks to the Primary School and Mrs Nikki Jasprizza for her coordination of the event.
Term 1 2018 Trials
With this year drawing to a close, our focus turns to Term 1 2018 sports. Trials for softball and tennis will be held over the next two weeks and students who have nominated for either sport will have received an email from the Sport Coordinator informing them of times and locations of trials. If you have not received this email, please contact us to find out more.
Badminton
Congratulations to Yasmin Say (Year 8) who has been selected to represent Australia in the Singapore Youth International Badminton Tournament at the end of this month.
Loreto Sports Girl Profile: Tatum Bird (Sports Captain)
Current sport/activity: Rugby 7s and Touch football
Favourite school sport/activity: Touch football
Highest level of sporting achievement: Selected as first shadow in the Women’s U18’s Australian Youth Rugby 7s Team, Girls U18’s NSW Rugby 7s Team, and the U17’s Girls Australian touch football squad.
Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: I know this is an old moment however I will never forget that our Year 7 first touch football team won the grand final against Pymble in 2013 in a drop off (very intense and exciting). Then the next week beating the senior firsts at the time and winning the Barker competition as Year 7/8’s. Hopefully backing it up this term with a grand final win against Abbotsleigh in the Senior firsts for touch football.
Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: Watching the Australian 7s Team win Gold at the 2016 RIO Olympics was an amazing thing for Rugby 7s and is the reason why the sport has developed so much.
Best subject at school: PDHPE and Modern History.
Any superstitions before playing sport: I particularly like the number 2 on my jersey/singlet as it always seems that the team wins when I wear it. When I leave home I like my phone charge to be on 100% so I can play 100%. On a grand final day, I like to have my hair in two braids into a pony tail – it’s my lucky hairstyle!!!
Best tune to listen to before competing: Stronger by Kanye West.
