Weekend Sport
We’ve been lucky so far, but with rain once again predicted for this Saturday’s fixtures, please make sure you check your venues before leaving home using the links below. Schools will always try to give as much notice as possible when closing venues and once a venue is closed, it will not re-open for the rest of the fixtures that day.
IGSSA Sport (touch football/water polo)
IPSHA Sport (basketball/cricket/tennis)
Normo Regatta
This Saturday, we’re hosting the Loreto Normanhurst Regatta at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC), the traditional opening to the Schoolgirl Regatta season. The day will commence at 6:15am in front of our shed, with the blessing of a new boat into the fleet – the Teresa Ball. I would like to invite all students and parents along to this ceremony; it is a beautiful way to start the day. Racing will begin at 7:40am and we’re looking forward to seeing our crews in action. There is also a wonderful raffle taking place, so please get down to SIRC for a fantastic day of fun and fast boats!
Gymnastics
The IGSSA Carnival was held on Friday and it was a massive success for our Secondary Gymnasts, both individually and as a team. The highlights were:
Maia Henville (Year 7) 3rd Level 3 Beam
Sophie Ainsworth (Year 7) 1st Level 7 Beam, 1st Level 7 Bars
Monica Andren (Year 11) 1st Level 8 Vault
Elise Coleiro (Year 7) 3rd Level 10 Beam
Overall, the squad finished 6th in the WAG components, 2nd in the Most Improved Trophy and won the Division 2 Overall Points Score Trophy! This is a fantastic achievement, with huge thanks going to our coaching staff – Morgan, Rebecca and Emma. Mrs Nikki Jasprizza did a wonderful job coordinating the program and the entire squad performed magnificently and deserve their excellent results – well done, girls!
Karate
Huge congratulations to Emma Jones (Year 7), who competed at the Karate National Championships last weekend. Emma performed very well, recording a 1st in 13-15 years sparring points, 2nd in 13-15 years sparring freestyle and 3rd in traditional Karta. As a result, Emma has qualified for the Australian Titles in December and we wish her all the best for that event! Check out her profile below as our Sports Girl of the Week.
Hockey
Good luck to Tilly Rose Keogh (Year 8) who will be competing in the U13s Indoor Hockey State Championships in Orange this weekend.
Loreto Sports Girl Profile: Emma Jones
Current sport/activity: For the past 4 years I have been learning Karate, a type of Martial Arts.
Favourite school sport/activity: On Saturdays I play tennis for the school. I have been playing tennis for a number of years and now enjoy playing for the school team.
Highest level of sporting achievement: Going to Australian Titles in 2016 for Karate. This has been my best achievement and I am aiming to top it as my result from Club Nationals on the 28 October means I go to the next level – the 2017 Australian Titles in December.
Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: In Term 1, I played IGSSA Tennis, and as I am in Year 7 and new to the school I got to meet lots of people and over that term got to know them better.
Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: When I am not competing at a Karate tournament, I like to watch other competitors compete as I learn from their mistakes and the success they have, and can use it to my advantage when I am competing.
Best subject at school: PDHPE as I enjoy doing the practical and theory lessons. On the academic side, I like doing Maths but it doesn’t always like me!
Best tune to listen to before competing: I created a playlist ‘Karate Vibes’ with the songs that makes me feel motivated to do my best.

We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport, but unfortunately we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.
