IGSSA Finals
Congratulations to the ten IGSSA Netball teams and the IGSSA Hockey team who have qualified for the Grand Finals this weekend. Well done on making it this far and we all have our collective fingers and toes crossed for you this weekend!
School Tennis Championships
There was some electric tennis on display at the School Tennis Championships over the past two weeks. Faith Zalm (Year 9) picked up the win in the singles, facing off against Annabelle Gohl (Year 7) in the final, with the two singles finalists teaming up to win the doubles over Mya-Rose San Diego (Year 9) and Emma Davies (Year 9). It’s fantastic to see so much young talent coming through the tennis program and makes for an exciting tennis season with Hornsby Tennis, IGSSA Tennis and Tildesley all around the corner.
CIS Athletics
Our Primary girls were lighting up the track on Wednesday, with Lucia Van Der Heiden (Year 5), Alex O’Brien (Year 6) and Neve Tierney (Year 5) representing IPSHA at the CIS Primary Athletics Carnival. All three girls did exceptionally well, with Lucia’s performance in the high jump the standout result – she jumped a PB of 1.33 to take home a silver medal and earn selection into the CIS team to compete at the NSW PSSA Championships in October! Well done to all three girls!
Next Wednesday is the Secondary School girls’ turn to strut their stuff at SOPAC at the CIS Secondary Athletics Carnival. Good luck to Georgia Arcus (Year 8), Elizabeth Chippendale (Year 11), Olivia Colman (Year 8), Sophie Kavanagh (Year 7), Lauren Marshall (Year 11), Amy McFadden (Year 8), Sarah Playford (Year 12) and Zara Warland (Year 7) who’ll be giving their all on the track and in the field for IGSSA. Special mention also to Zoe Warland (Year 10), Eliza Harvey (Year 11) and Caitlin Von Behr (Year 10) who qualified to represent IGSSA but will not be competing on Wednesday.
Swimming
Well done Samantha Cox (Year 7) who competed at the NSW State Age Short Course Swimming Championships at Sydney Olympic Park over the weekend. Samantha placed in the following events:
2nd 12 years 100m Backstroke
3rd 12 years 200m Backstroke
2nd 12 years 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay
2nd 12 years 4 x 50m Medley Relay
Swim Fitness
The Sport Department has introduced a trial Swim Fitness program for all students who are interested in improving or maintaining their aerobic fitness in the pool. It has been great to see the level of interest so far and we encourage all girls to give it a go! The program is open to all students who can comfortably swim 50 metres. Sessions run on Monday and Wednesday mornings (please note – there will be no session on Monday 18th September) from 7am to 8am under the instruction of our Head Coach James Harnett. Swim Fitness will continue every Monday and Wednesday in Term 4 – each session is $5 with the charges being applied to the student’s term account at the end of Term 4. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Sport Department.
LORETO SPORTS GIRL pROFILE: Eloise Hansen
Current sport/activity: The netball and soccer seasons have just finished, so I am looking forward to Little Athletics and touch football.
Favourite school sport/activity: Playing soccer for the school in Term 2 was great, but I also really enjoyed playing netball with my friends in a peer team in Term 3.
Highest level of sporting achievement: At school it would be representing IGSSA for the Interstate Challenge and CIS Championships in soccer. Otherwise playing soccer with the Gladesville Ravens in NPL2.
Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: Going to Coffs Harbour with the Senior Firsts for the NSW CIS Cup where we competed against Bishop Druitt College (and won!)
Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: Going to the Bledisloe Cup is heaps of fun, though I am looking forward to watching the Matildas play Brazil this weekend.
Best subject at school: I really enjoy History, Art and PDHPE.
Any superstitions before playing sport: Not that I can think of!
Best tune to listen to before competing: ‘We are the Champions’ by Queen is always a good song to listen to before a game.
Photos
We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport, but unfortunately we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.
