IGSSA Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday and Thursday this week, the Loreto Athletics team threw down some citius, altius, fortius action with a sensational display at the IGSSA Carnival. Our team of 31 girls competed across 65 events and came home with some excellent results. Notable podium results include:

  • Zoe Warland (Year 10) winning the 15s Long Jump with a fantastic personal best jump of 5.32m and placing 2nd in the Hurdles.
  • Eliza Harvey (Year 11) coming 3rd in the Intermediate 400m.
  • Elisabeth Chippendale (Year 11) coming 2nd in the Senior 400m.

The best was yet to come however, as the whole squad was rewarded for the fantastic efforts across the two days by winning the Division II Point Score trophy. At the time of publication, we are awaiting the final rankings and the full list of results; however it was a great two days of competition! Well done to all our athletes!

Congratulations to Charli Fidler (Year 8) who has been selected into the NSW Waratahs Indoor Netball team. She will be competing at Nationals in the last week of November 2017 and we wish her all the best for the Championships.
Good luck to Emma Vandervelde (Year 9), Ella Nelson (Year 9), Charli Fidler (Year 8) and Erin O’Brien (Year 8) for the IGSSA 15/U Netball team trial this afternoon!

Good luck to the girls participating in the North West Secondary Schools Challenge on Saturday night. This series is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in tournament tennis and is always a great evening for our tennis squad. If your daughter is interested in participating in future events, please email Mr David Brock .

Duke of Edinburgh

Good luck to the Duke of Ed Bronze participants who will be undertaking their qualifying adventurous canoeing journey at Kangaroo Valley this weekend.

Please note: due to predicted high winds, the pick-up location in Kangaroo Valley will now be the same as the drop-off location at Bendeela. All parents have been emailed with details of this change. To ensure we are able to keep to schedule and guarantee everyone arriving at the same time, please remember all girls must catch the bus from the Slip Road – departure time is 6:00am on Saturday morning.

Loreto Sports Girl Profile:  Breanna Harris

Current sport/activity: The sport I’m playing at the moment is Netball (the best game ever!).

Favourite school sport/activity: My favourite school sport activity is Netball, and I play Tennis for Loreto as well.

Highest level of sporting achievement: My best sporting achievement is winning the 2017 Under 12 State Age netball competition with my REP team, KNA (which I was the Captain of!). This is a three-day carnival and we played nineteen games overall, I was super tired afterwards.

Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: The best moment of Loreto sport was when I made it into the CIS team for Netball – we travel to Tamworth for a 3-day carnival at the end of this month.

Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: My favourite part of spectating was when I went and watched my coach Ash play for North Shore United (Netball), she is amazing.

Best subject at school: My best subjects at school are English and Art.

Any superstitions before playing sport: I don’t have any superstitions before playing a game, I just want to play my best and have a fun time! Some rituals I do before games is putting my lucky ribbons in my hair and making sure my shoelaces are tied up.

Best tune to listen to before competing: My favourite song I listen to before a game to get me pumped up is Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran. I’m going to see him in concert next year!

We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport, but unfortunately we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to

If you’re on Twitter, you can follow us at @loretonhsport – tweet us and use the hashtag #LetsGoLoreto and we’ll retweet as many as we can!
