Taunton School Tour
We were lucky enough to play hosts to a touring squad from Taunton School, Somerset earlier this week. They had a squad of 28 students who we matched up with in hockey and netball on Monday and Tuesday respectively. All games were played in the tremendous spirit you expect when you pit teams from Australia and England against each other. The metaphorical ‘urn’ was shared on the hockey pitch, whilst Loreto was able to take all three netball fixtures. These kind of experiences, however, are less about the results and more about the opportunities for our teams to play against new opposition and our girls to be able to take visiting players into their homes as billets.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the families who took billets over the three days – experiences like these literally can’t go ahead without the generosity of our school community and every single piece of feedback I got from Taunton staff and students was overwhelmingly positive.
Primary School Athletics Carnival
After the Primary Carnival suffered from the same weather difficulties as the Secondary Athletics Program earlier in the year, we were finally able to complete the Primary School Athletics Carnival on Friday last week.
There were some fantastic results across both track and field, with special mentions to the following award winners:
10 years age champion: Alice Mackenzie (Year 5)
11 years age champion: Lucia Vanderheiden (Year 5)
12 years age champion: Lara Granelli (Year 6)
Queen of the Track – winner of the 100m Invitation: Lara Granelli (Year 6)
Spirit Cup: Benedicta
House Champions: Clare
IGSSA Netball representatives
Our netballers got the chance to strut their stuff over the past couple of weeks with the IGSSA 15/U and Opens Netball Trials being held. In the Opens, Sophie Dwyer (Year 10) was selected to represent IGSSA at the CIS Championships. In the 15/U’s, Charli Fidler (Year 8) and Erin O’Brien (Year 8) were selected on the day whilst Ella Nelson (Year 9) and Emma Vandervelde (Year 9) have been included in a squad of 18 after missing the trials due to being in Far North Queensland. This squad will be trimmed to a final squad of 12 in preparation for the CIS Championships.
