Term 1 Sports Wrap

I think we’ve seen enough rain this term to last us for an entire year! What a disjointed term of sport we had, with cancellations left, right and centre. Thank you to all the girls for their patience around the all the changes and cancellations – we will be sending information out about some of the rescheduled events, such as the Athletics Carnival field events and the Cross Country trials early in Term 2.

Term 2 Sports

We are currently in the process of finalising the information around teams, draws and venues for our Term 2 Primary and Secondary sports. We’re currently waiting on IGSSA to distribute the draw for basketball and football so once that is released, we will be sending that out to all girls involved. Students: please remember to check your email intermittently over the holidays so you can start planning for the season ahead.

IPSHA Cross Country

It was a fantastic day out at The King’s School for the IPSHA Cross Country Carnival last Saturday – congratulations to all our girls who competed. Further congratulations to Neve Tierny (Year 5) who was selected in the IPSHA Cross Country Squad with Lucia Vanderheiden (Year 5) being named as first reserve for that squad.

Gold! Gold for Loreto! Gold!

Massive congratulations to Lily Tancred (Year 11) for taking out gold at the Australian Surf Lifesaving Titles in the U/17s Mixed First Aid competition on the Gold Coast last weekend. Along with her partner, she won the competition by 30 points which is a huge effort – well done Lily!

It was blue skies and big smiles at the Secondary Athletics Carnival on Wednesday, with the modified format not taking any shine off what was a fantastic day of racing. As the field events are still to be run, there are no overall results to report yet, but there are still some congratulations:

Olivia Colman (Year 8) for winning the Invitational 100m in a stunning time of 13.25
Zoe Warland (Year 10) for breaking the 15s 200m record (27.31)
Sarah Playford (Year 12) for breaking the Senior 400m record (1:00.53)
Georgia Arcus (Year 8) for breaking the 13s 800m record (2:34.00)
Maye Junior 100m Relay team for breaking the 4x100m record (56.24)

Some of our girls had a decent warm up for the carnival, as the following girls competed at the National Athletics Championships in Homebush the week prior to the carnival: Georgia Arcus (Year 8), Eliza Harvey(Year 11), Breanna Ivankovic (Year 10), Alana Kavanagh (Year 8), Sophie Kavanagh (Year 7), Madeleine Playford (Year 12), Charlotte Ryan (Year 10) and Zoe Warland (Year 10).

Congratulations, girls!

Our tennis girls did us proud again at the annual Tildesley Tennis Shield tournament at Pennant Hills Park. Each girl gave their all and Head Coach Steve Thompson was pleased with the overall result, with the girls matching the 20th overall place they achieved last year.

Congratulations to Annabelle Gohl (Year 7) who won the 12 and under singles competition at the Eastwood – Thornleigh Age Tennis Championships last weekend.

The rowing season officially ended last weekend with our 1st VIII and U/17s VIII competing at the National titles. Both teams put in fantastic efforts and were rewarded with 1st place finishes in the ‘C’ and ‘B’ finals respectively. Well done to those girls!

Last weekend Charli Rilen (Year 8) competed at the Gymnastics State Championships and came away with some wonderful results. Charli is now the State Champion for the Double Mini Trampoline in the Youth International Division. She finished 3rd on Trampoline (Youth International Division) and 2nd with her partner in Synchronised Trampoline. Charli has qualified for the State Gymnastics team competing at the National Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne at the end of May. Well done Charli!
