Tildesley tennis

By the time you read this, Tildesley Tennis will have been run and won, however at the time of publishing, our girls are busy slogging it out for glory. Our Tildesley Captains Niamh Condon (Year 12) and Lucy Gibson (Year 12) lead our team of 26 players, competing against 25 other IGSSA schools in the 99th edition of the Tildesley Tennis Shield. Our girls are competing across singles and doubles competitions with a pure knockout format. The preparation for Tildesley begins way back in Term 2 of the previous year so our girls have put in the hard yards and I’m sure they’ll reap the rewards.

Head of the river

Speaking of putting in the hard yards, our rowers will head out to Sydney International Regatta Centre this weekend to contest the Annual Schoolgirls Head of the River. After six long months of training, two camps, many early starts and late finishes, Captain and Vice-Captain of Boats Lauren Graham (Year 12) and Alana Lawson (Year 12) and their crews are ready for one more race with the mantra of Head Coach Chloe Congdon echoing in their ears: “1 Stroke, 1 Inch, 1 Team”. We wish all the girls involved in that the best of luck.

primary cross country

On Thursday morning, after an initial postponement due to the weather, the Primary School girls were able to bust out the joggers and charge around the school for two or three laps for the Primary School Cross Country. There were some excellent times and despite the gloomy skies, the Houses were full of noise as each group tried to yell their runners to victory. Congratulations to the 25 girls who have been selected to represent the school at the IPSHA Carnival on April 1st at the Kings School – we know you’ll all do us proud.

With school hockey season just around the (short) corner, a big congrats to three groups of hockey girls:

Zara Allen (Year 11), Rachel Osborne (Year 11) and Alana Kavanagh (Year 8) for their selection in the IGSSA U/16s Representative Squad. These girls will represent IGSSA at the CIS U/16s carnival on March 28 and we wish them all the best of luck.

Sigourney Berkery (Year 8), Olivia Fanning (Year 9) and Bailey Henderson  (Year 9) for their selection in the U15’s North Sydney and Beaches Representative Team.

Olivia Fanning (Year 9), Sophia Dickinson (Year 9) and Baily Henderson (Year 9) for their selection in the North Sydney and Beaches Indoor Hockey All Stars Team.

good luck

Good Luck to Lily Tancred (Year 11) who will be competing in the Australian Surf Lifesaving Titles next week.

athletics Carnival – Update

Due to the continued rain that has plagued sport so far this term, a decision has been made to alter the format of the upcoming Secondary Athletics Carnival. In previous years, we’ve been able to host heats prior to the carnival on our Oval with the top eight  girls in most events going on to contest the final on the day of the carnival. This year we’ve been unable to run any activity on our oval, so we will be splitting the carnival into two sections.

  • Section one will be run on Wednesday 5 April at Olympic Park and will consist of track events only. The 1500m and hurdles will be run prior to the school’s charter train arriving and as such, we ask that only girls who are interested in qualifying for IGSSA in these events nominate to run on the morning.
  • Section two will be run across a series of dates in Term 2 and will be held on the school oval; this section will consist of all field events as well as house point races for hurdles and 1500m.

All students have received an email outlining the organisation in further detail and we will continue to communicate with students regarding the change of program.
