We’re at the half way point of the Term 2 Sport Season and it’s been great to see our girls developing their skills and enjoying competing with their mates across our IGSA Football, IGSA Basketball, HDNA Netball, IPSHA Netball and IPSHA Hockey seasons. Good luck to all our teams as they enter the final stretch of the IGSA and IPSHA seasons, and a special good luck to our HDNA Netball teams who play under the Friday Night Lights this evening!
On Monday our superstar softball ex-students, Ellen Roberts ’09, and Tahli Moore ’12, spoke to students about their journey to making the Australian Olympic Team. It was great to hear their honest accounts about the ups and downs of following your sporting dreams. Good luck for Japan!
Secondary School Athletics Carnival
On Monday 31st May, the Secondary School will make their way to Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre to compete in the festival of colour and noise we call the Secondary School Athletics Carnival! After missing out on this event in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, we can’t wait to get back to the track and see all our girls put their best foot forward to qualify for the LN team to compete at the IGSA Carnival or to tally up a House Point in search of the coveted Champion House and Spirit Cup trophies! If you haven’t returned a permission note for the Carnival yet, please ask your daughter to return it to her tutor. Students also need to nominate for all track events if they wish to run on the day of the carnival – please check the Student Sentral Notices for all the information and links to nominate.
IGSA Cross Country
The IGSA Cross Country Team recently represented the school at the IGSA Cross Country Championships at Frensham. After a false start the week prior due to heavy rain across Mittagong, we were greeted with some frosty conditions, but the running action was red hot!
Congratulations to Isla Mason (Year 12), Zara Warland (Year 11) and Neve Tierney (Year 9) who have qualified to represent IGSA at the NSWCIS Championships at Eastern Creek in June.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
Good luck to the 112 Bronze participants who will be undertaking their practice canoeing journey for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award this weekend. They’ll be jumping into canoes on Saturday afternoon before making their way down river and setting up camp overnight before returning to the departure point on Sunday. It’s going to be a wonderful weekend for the girls to push their boundaries and get stuck into some fun outdoor education!
We’ve also launched a new service for all students currently engaged in Duke of Edinburgh – we’ll be holding drop-in sessions for students to come down and ask any questions or get any guidance that students may have. Each Friday, the School’s Duke of Ed Award Leaders will be on hand to provide all the assistance you’ll need to smoothly work your way through the Award.
NSW All Schools 15&U AFL Championships
Good luck to Skye Halmarick (Year 8) who will represent Loreto Normanhurst at the NSW All Schools 15&U AFL Championships on Monday 24th May. The championships are being held in Albury, NSW so we wish you safe travels and all the best for your games!
NSW U16 State Softball Team
Congratulations to Eliza King (Year 10) who was selected into the 2021 NSW U16 Women’s Softball team. Unfortunately, restrictions around COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of the National Championships, however Eliza’s U16 squad was able to participate in a training and a friendly tournament against the NSW U18 squad earlier this year. Well done, Eliza!
NSW CIS Open Hockey Championship
Congratulations to Sigourney Berkery (Year 12) who competed with the IGSA Hockey Team at the NSW CIS Open Hockey Championships on Monday at Pennant Hills Park. Sig played some outstanding hockey to secure a spot in the NSW CIS Team that will play at the NSW All Schools Hockey Championship in Newcastle in July.
Loreto Sports Girl: Isla Mason, Year 12
Current sport/activity: Cross Country and St Ives Club AFL (though I’m not very good at AFL).
Favourite school sport/activity: I love swimming, AFL and hockey.
Highest level of sporting achievement: I competed at Nationals for Swimming in Year 8 and State Swimming from Year 5-9.
Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: My favourite moment of Loreto Sport was my hockey grand final in Year 10 in the Loreto Seconds. We were in the grand final and I was playing my cousin at Ascham. We were tied the whole game at 1-1, going into double extra time. In the last minute of the 2nd double time, Tilly scored and we won, it was really exciting.
Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: I love watching AFL with my dad, but my favourite moment is actually watching horse racing, particularly Winx running (I don’t know whether that counts).
Best subject at school: Maths, but only because of my legend teacher (Mrs Dowers).
Any superstitions before playing sport: Don’t eat tomatoes before I race (have a very bad after taste).
Best tune to listen to before competing: Whatever it Takes – Imagine Dragons or In Da Club – 50 Cent.

Correct Sport Uniform
An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport.
Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will NOT be allowed to play. In the case that no Loreto Sport Staff member is present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst.
We love to see photos of our students getting physically active and staying engaged in sport. Please send through any photos or videos to firstname.lastname@example.org
