IGSSA Sport Survey
As you may have seen in Ms Ugonotti’s video address, we are pleased to announce that IGSSA will be embracing a new model for their seasonal sport programs, beginning in Term 4 this year. The new model will give each member school the option to choose between running each IGSSA sport across a single term as we currently do, or across two terms (as two individual one-term seasons as opposed to a single two-term season).
Please click here for a more in-depth breakdown of the proposal.
It’s important that any changes that we as a school choose to make reflect the views and values of our school community, so I am asking for your feedback to aid our discernment of this decision regarding the direction of the LN Sport program. We have prepared a short survey for students in Years 5-11 and their parents – if you participate in all 4 terms or just 1 term of sport, we’re keen to know your views.
Please click here to submit a short survey on your thoughts about the model change.
The survey will be open until Monday March 1st; from there, we will discern what will be the most optimal program offering that best suits the Loreto Normanhurst Sport Community.
I look forward to providing you with updates in this space about the LN Sport program later in the year!
Sport Canvas Page
I was lucky enough to chat with some of our new parents on Wednesday night, and to assist with their transition into a new world of LN Sport, we’ve put together a resource that may be handy for parents of all students who are looking for a centralised information source for all things LN Sport.
Please click here for the LN Sport Canvas Parent Guide.
It was a fantastic first weekend of Secondary Sport fixtures – the oval, pool, gym and courts were abuzz with activity and excitement on Saturday morning, and I was lucky enough to be down at Pymble on Saturday afternoon to watch our Year 7/8 1sts AFL team kick 3 goals in the last quarter to come from behind vs Pymble in a cracking game!
This weekend, we welcome our Primary girls into their first round of fixtures for the year, with our IPHSA Football and IPSHA Flippaball/Water Polo teams in action. Best of luck to all our teams and a special mention for our Year 5 girls who will be representing Loreto Normanhurst for the very first time!
Please be aware that it looks like there is some heavy rain scheduled across Sydney on Saturday – make sure you’re aware of the procedures for your sport and venue closures; all the details for that are further down in the Sport newsletter.
Well done to our Schoolgirl VIII and Under 17’s Doubles crews that competed at the NSW State Rowing Championships – both crews had tough heats but qualified for their final, with both crews finishing 5th overall. Well done to the girls in both crews and best of luck for the double-header regatta this weekend, with PLC/Kings on Saturday and the IGSSA Regatta on Sunday!
At the PLC/Kings Regatta, we also have 4 girls taking part in the inaugural Schoolgirl Representative Eight races, with Elizabeth Bolster and Maya Jones, Year 12, and Paige Critchlow and Olivia Lucas, Year 11, who will be competing as part of the IGSSA 2nd VIII, and we wish those girls all the best for that races.
Well done to Tessa Young (Year 5) and Ava Christofides (Year 5) who participated in the IPSHA Basketball trials this week, and a further congratulations to Tessa who was selected into the IPSHA Basketball Team and will represent Loreto at the CIS Basketball Trials next week. Way to go, girls!
At the time of going to print, we’ve got 3 girls showcasing their best cover drives and in-swinging yorkers, with Skye Halmarick (Year 8), Isabella Tesoriero (Year 9) and Matiese Wadwell (Year 11) taking part in the NSWCIS Cricket Trials. Good luck girls!
We have more girls in action today looking for representative selection – our softballers are in action vying for a sport in the IGSSA Softball team. Best of luck to Peyton Henderson (Year 12), Kendal Henderson (Year 9), Eliza King (Year 10) and Chelsea Gleeson (Year 9).
We’ll update you with all the selection news in the next newsletter and on the Sport Twitter and Facebook pages.
Term 2 Sport Nominations
Nominations for Year 8-12 students for Term 2 Sports closed today – if you haven’t yet submitted a nomination form and want to play IGSSA Basketball, IGSSA Football, Hills District Netball or Cheerleading, please email the Sport Department ASAP!
Year 7 students will sit down with the Sport Department on Wednesday 17th February and walk through the nomination process – if your daughter is in Year 7 and is planning to play one of the above sports, please ensure you’ve discussed this with her before Wednesday so she is prepared to submit her nomination on the day.
Expressions of interest are also open for students interested in participating in the Mollie Dive Hockey competition – there is more info on the Canvas page or on your student newsfeed. Please contact Mr Charters if you have any questions or would like more information.
IGSSA Cross Country
Calling all runners! This Thursday morning, we’ll be trialing secondary students who wish to represent Loreto Normanhurst at the IGSSA Cross Country Carnival. The trial will start at 7:45am on the Oval, so students should arrive around 7am to go through a warmup and course briefing. All students are welcome to trial, with the top 8 in each age group qualifying to run at IGSSA later this year.
On Wednesday February 24th, we’ll be looking to light up the pool with our new Secondary Students Swim Trials. All Year 7 student and any students who are new to the school in Years 8-12 are invited to come down to the Aquatic Centre on Wednesday after school to record times to be considered for selection into the Loreto Normanhurst team at the IGSSA Swim & Dive Championships. A nomination form will go round to all students ahead of the trials – please complete a nomination and you’ll get further information ahead of the trials.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Today we held our first information session for Year 9 students interested in taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh program. The Duke of Edinburgh program is an excellent way for students to broaden their horizons and involve themselves in a range of different opportunities. More information has gone to Year 9 parents with a link to a Zoom session on Wednesday 17th February at 5:30pm.
Good luck to Emma Romeo (Year 10) who will be competing in the Randwick Equine Clinic Sydney Eventing Summer Classic at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre later this month. Emma will be competing in the 80cm show jumping, cross country and dressage events. All the best Emma!

Some awesome news for an ex-LN Sport Star – Lizzy Clay ran a 12.84 in the 100m hurdles over the weekend, which was both an Olympic qualifying time and the 3rd fastest time for an Australian female ever! Way to go, Lizzy and we can’t to watch her go up against the best in the world later this year!
