Introducing… Secondary AFL!
There’s a big, big sound from the west of the SAN…
I am very excited to announce that Loreto Normanhurst will be entering teams into the Sydney Independent Girls’ School Tournament, run by AFL NSW in Term 1, 2020!
This is a fantastic opportunity for students of all abilities; from those who want to try AFL for the first time right through to experienced players. Fixtures will be held in Term 1 on Saturday afternoons, so there is no clash with Term 1 IGSSA Sports. There are 3 age divisions, so students will be playing both with and against students of similar age.
Interested students will undergo a 4-week training program in Term 4, run by AFLNSW in conjunction with our LN coaching staff to ensure that all students are able to safely participate. This will culminate in a safe-to-play assessment to confirm students are ready for competition in Term 1, 2020.
Students will be sent an email on Monday 28 October with details on how to register their interest to participate in the Term 1 competition, and they will have until Friday 8th November to complete that form. The 4-week training program will begin in Week 5 and run through until the end of Term 4.
There will be an AFL Information Evening on Tuesday 5 November in the Curran Theatre, with all parents and students invited to attend. The evening will begin at 6pm and will be an opportunity for all interested parties to get a bit more information and ask any questions they may have.
Cheer, cheer the navy and gold!
Big congrats to Mia Jones (Year 8) who competed at the Junior Australian Oztag Championships last weekend. She was part of an U/14’s team that went through the tournament undefeated! Well done, Mia!
Best of luck to our Cheer squad as they compete this weekend at the Battle of the Beaches! It’s competition season, so the squad will be looking to put on a great show at Pittwater Park on Sunday – go well, girls!
NSWCIS Teams Triathlon
Good luck to all the girls competing in the NSWCIS Teams Triathlon out at Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith on Monday 28 October. Girls will be looking to get around the swim, bike and run course as quick as they can to qualify for the NSW All Schools Triathlon early next year – best of luck girls!
T20 Cricket Blast
On Monday, over 130 girls in 14 teams will be participating and competing in the NSW Cricket T20 Blast here at school. The winners of the day have a chance to play as the WBBL curtain raiser in the Regional Finals on the 20 November at Drummoyne Oval. Good luck to all our budding Sixers and Thunder players!
On Thursday, our Primary gymnasts will be on show at the IPSHA Gymnastics Carnival out at the Sydney Gymnastic Aquatic Centre in Rooty Hill – they’ve been working hard on their routines and are looking forward to showing IPSHA what they’ve got – good luck girls!
You want more gymnastics? You got it! On Friday, our Secondary girls pick up where our Primary girls leave off with the IGSSA Gymnastics Carnival. As reigning Division 2 WAG Champions from 2018, we’ll be crossing our fingers and toes the girls can go back to back this year – all the best to our gymnastics squad!

An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:
Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will not be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
