Term 3 Sport Finals
What a fantastic way to wrap up Term 3 IGSSA Sports with some wonderful grand finals for our netball and hockey girls!
In netball, the atmosphere in our gym was electric as our Senior 1sts were victorious against Pymble, running away with a 37-16 win to claim the IGSSA S01 title; an amazing achievement and the first time we’ve won the top IGSSA Netball division since 2005! We also saw success for our LON14 & LON22 teams, with LON05, LON09 and LON19 all putting in great efforts to finish runners up.
Our LON02 hockey team had a great grand final, taking on Ascham and taking away the title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory to round off an amazing season.
Well done to all our hockey and netball teams and a huge thanks to the coaching staff involved with all those teams last term!
Term 4 Sports
Good luck to all our Term 4 sport teams that will be kicking off this weekend! This term, we’ve got IGSSA Touch Football, IGSSA Water Polo, HKDTA Tennis, IPSHA Basketball, IPSHA Tennis, IPSHA Cricket, Rowing and Cheerleading – it’s going to be wall-to-wall sport all term and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
School Sports Australia Football
Big congrats to Greta Kraszula (Year 11) who was a member of the NSW Girls Football squad who competed at the School Sports Australia National Football Championships at the end of last term – they went through the tournament undefeated and were crowned deserved champions! In more excellent news for Greta, she was invited to tour with an Australian representative team that will head to the USA next year. On top of that, she’s also been invited to take part in pre-season with the Western Sydney Wanderers to compete for a place in their W-League squad for the upcoming season. Great job, Greta!
All Schools Athletics
Some fantastic results from our athletics squad who competed at NSW All Schools last week – we had 14 girls in 33 events, with 7 top-5 finishes, punctuated with a gold for outgoing Sport Captain Zoe Warland (Year 12) in the 17’s 100m Hurdles. Congrats to all girls involved!
Netball Schools Cup
Our Year 10 netball squad competed in the State Final of the Netball Schools Cup at the end of last term and after a gruelling day of competition, won a very tight final to claim the title of the best Year 9/10 schoolgirl netball team in the State! This is a fantastic achievement for the girls and the culmination of getting through the regional and metro tournaments earlier in the year. Awesome work, girls!
Two members of our victorious Netball Schools Cup team have also had some more good news – Erin O’Brien (Year 10) and Charli Fidler (Year 10) have been selected in the Greater Western Sydney Giants Netball Academy. This is a wonderful opportunity for the girls to continue their progress towards their netball goals – congratulations Erin and Charli!
IGSSA Interstate Challenge
There were 5 Normo girls in Bowral for the weekend representing IGSSA at the Interstate Challenge Tournament. Netball and tennis finished 1st and football finished 2nd, which meant IGSSA NSW came away with the overall trophy for the 4th year in a row. Congrats to Anabel Waldock (Year 10), Madeline Playford (Year 11), Eloise Hansen (Year 11), Grace Thomas (Year 11) and Greta Kraszula (Year 11) on a fantastic tournament!
National Clubs Gymnastics
Congratulations to Charlotte Barnett (Year 5) who spent a week on the Gold Coast last term competing at the National Clubs Gymnastics Carnival. Charlotte came away with some fantastic results including a bronze medal in ribbon and a silver medal for the team competition – top stuff, Charlotte!
During the second week of the holidays, our rowers were hard at work with three days of rowing fun at SIRC and on the Nepean River. New rowers across all age groups had the opportunity to wet an oar and in a couple of cases, get themselves quite soggy as well (not from the rain!). Our team of coaches put in big hours to make this a really effective short and sharp camp.
Some of the highlights included:
- The unveiling of 13 new Sykes Initiator single sculls which arrived on Friday afternoon, just in the nick of time for the two sessions using them on Saturday. First up was the Year 10 and 11 rowers and then the Year 9’s had a go in the singles, after they had been out in the big boats, for most rowing in an eight for the first time.
- Some great Year 9 quad sessions on SIRC, being led by the very experienced coaching of Jeff Paterson.
- Three dynamic Year 8 quads getting out together and doing some side by side action.
- Great progress from all of the learn to row girls, but special mention must be made of Lily, Scarlett and Emma who in three days managed to have a row in a quad, single and the eight.
On the Sunday after camp we had a working bee involving parents and coaches to make the move to our new rowing facility at Tarban Creek. A huge thanks to all of the parents and coaches who helped at both ends of what was a very productive and somewhat exhausting day, especially for those who backed up at both venues.
Big news for to Tayla Moore (Year 5) who represented CIS at the NSWPSSA Primary Softball Championships last term and pitched her team to 4th place. To top it off, Tayla was selected into the NSWPSSA team that will compete at Nationals in November. Well done Tayla!
Big congrats to Maddison Hinds (Year 8) who had a very successful day at the Swimming NSW Multiclass Championships last weekend, representing our new LN Swim Club and bringing home 5 gold medals! Way to go, Maddie!
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Over the school break, fourteen Duke of Ed Silver participants successfully completed their canoeing camp in the Hawkesbury River region. Well done to these girls and a huge thank you to our parent representative who kindly volunteered to accompany the girls on the two night camp.
