Farewell Year 12

To the Class of 2019, thank you all for your enthusiasm and involvement in Sport at Loreto Normanhurst. We hope you have made memories that you will cherish, and that you have developed a passion for sport and physical activity that you will take with you.

Hills Netball Finals

A beautiful spring day greeted our Hills Netballers last Saturday as they took to the courts to compete in their Grand Finals. There were 8 LN teams in action, and at the end of the day, it was the law of averages that won out as we took home 4 trophies and 4 runners-up positions. Congratulations to LON05, LON07, LON13 & LON18 who triumphed in their match ups and commiserations to LON03, LON08, LON14 & LON16 who all played tremendous matches but just missed out at the final hurdle. A huge thanks to all the coaching staff, parents and the all-important players who made the season such a successful and enjoyable one!

Saturday Sports Finals

If it’s Grand Final action you want, it’s Grand Final action you’ll get, as our IGSSA Hockey and IGSSA Netball teams face off this weekend to be crowned the season’s victor. LON02 are flying the hockey flag, and there are 6 netball teams in action this weekend. I strongly urge all students who aren’t involved in finals this weekend to get down to the Normo Gym at 8am this Saturday and cheer on our Senior 1sts Netballers as they take on Pymble for the title of S01 Champions. That’s not all – there are 3 more fantastic games after that, each a Normo vs Pymble grudge match! It would be amazing to have an incredible atmosphere in the gym and across the other venues for these matches, particularly for the Year 12 girls who’ll be representing Loreto Normanhurst for the last time. Congratulations to all the teams who have made the Grand Final and best of luck for the weekend!

Cheerleading

Congratulations to our Loreto Cheerleading squad who placed 3rd overall at the AASCF State Championships!! Well done on this fantastic achievement girls!

Football

It’s been a full on week for Greta Kraszula (Year 11) as she has been in Queensland with the NSW All Schools Football team at the School Sports Australia National Football Championships. At the time of going to print, the NSW team has been dominant, notching up wins against SA, Victoria and Tasmania so far. The big match will be against Queensland on Thursday followed by WA on Friday – good luck, Greta!

Athletics

From the Primary School there was awesome news for Tayla Moore (Year 5) this week as she competed at the School Sports Australia Track & Field Championships in Darwin. Representing NSW, she came 5th overall in U/11’s discus, throwing a personal best of 30.04m in the process! That is a fantastic achievement, competing against the best of the best across Australia – well done, Tayla!”

Unfortunately, the rain put a dampener on the NSW Schools Relay Championships on Tuesday, with all racing cancelled due to poor conditions. Fingers crossed the weather improves for next Tuesday as our representative Athletics squad dons the pink, white and black of IGSSA to compete at the NSW CIS Track & Field Championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Best of luck to all our competitors!

There’s no time to rest, though, as our athletes are back in action later next week at the NSW All Schools Track & Field Championships, and we have our fingers and toes crossed for those competitors as well.

Netball Schools Cup

A big good luck to our Netball Schools Cup team, who take on the best teams in NSW next week in the State Championships of the Netball Schools Cup competition. These girls have been crowned best in the region and best in the Sydney Metro area, so fingers crossed they can make it a hat trick of crowns at the State Champs next Wednesday – go well, girls!

Wet Weather Information

A reminder for how to access information regarding ground closures due to wet weather for weekend sport. Please make sure you check the relevant website prior to leaving home to ensure your venue is open for play.
