Saturday Sport

This week may well be a special one for some of our Year 12 girls as it might be their final game representing Loreto Normanhurst. To all the Year 12 girls who have represented Loreto Normanhurst so proudly over their time at the school, I would like to say a heartfelt thanks and to wish you all the best with your journey towards lifelong physical activity. It is the aim of the Sport Department that every girl who exits the gates at the end of her time at Normo has developed a love of physical activity that will carry her through her post-LN life and that she fully reaps the benefits of sport and movement, not just physically, but mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually as well.

Rugby 7’s

Good luck to our girls this weekend who complete the final round of the Pymble Rugby 7’s Invitational competition. It’s been a fantastic sophomore season for a number of our girls and amazing to see experienced and inexperienced girls alike getting involved in Rugby 7’s!

Athletics

Following on from last week’s IGSSA Athletics Carnival, congratulations to the 12 girls who have been selected to represent IGSSA at the NSWCIS Athletics Championships later this term. Well done to the following girls who all got the call up and I’ll bring you the results of that carnival once it’s run, done and won.

Congratulations to the 70 Bronze participants who completed their qualifying canoeing camp last weekend in Cattai and Windsor. A big thank you goes out to the five parent volunteers who attended the camp as the school’s representatives.

Dance

Best of luck to our Dance Troupes as they perform at the Independent Dance Festival today. Both groups put on an amazing display of movement at the School Assembly on Wednesday – they’ll be undertaking some classes and workshops during the day before the performances on Friday night. Go well, girls!

Wet Weather Information

A reminder for how to access information regarding ground closures due to wet weather for weekend sport. Please make sure you check the relevant website prior to leaving home to ensure your venue is open for play.

An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:

Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will not be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.

Loreto Sports Girl: Eliza Rossell

Current sport/activity: Snowboarding and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).

Favourite school sport/activity: Snowboarding.

Highest level of sporting achievement: Competed in the Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships since I was six and qualifying as an individual and as a team in Div 1 Snowboard X for the Australian Championships this year in Mt Buller. It was a huge course and I liked having the Price sisters join up with the Rossell sisters!

Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: Competing as a team with my sister Dom in Div 5 many years ago and competing up a division with her in Div 1 this year for her last year. On both occasions we got on the podium.

Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: Watching the wheelchair basketball at the Invictus games last year. I also remember being totally in awe watching the wheelchair athletes’ endurance and perseverance in the Balmoral Burn – it was really inspirational. Watching family members race and when my brother Tom came third place in the Australian Championships in Div 1 boys GS.

Best subject at school: Art.

Any superstitions/traditions before playing sport: I like my jacket sleeves over my gloves and pulled tight. We also watch “Cool Running” each season – it’s always on Jindy TV when we compete. We also hike the “peak” of Mt Annupuri as soon as the sun appears.

Best tune to listen to before competing: I listen to a playlist including Love Generation, also the snow report on Snow FM as we drive up the mountain; it has really bad 80s and 90s music!

Photos

We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport but, unfortunately, we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.

If you’re on Twitter, you can follow us at @loretonhsport – tweet us and use the hashtag #LetsGoLoreto and we’ll retweet as many as we can!
