Primary School Athletics Carnival
What an amazing afternoon! The Oval was lit up with the colours of Benedicta, Clare and Dorothea as the Primary School girls battled it out at the Primary School Athletics Carnival on Monday afternoon. There were some great efforts both on the track and in the field and we’ll have a full wrap of results and records in next week’s newsletter, along with the all-important House Champion, Spirit Cup winners and the winner of the 100m Invitational.
Staying with awesome news from the world of Primary sport, congratulations to Tayla Moore (Year 5) who has been selected into the CIS Primary Softball Team. Yesterday she also competed at the NSWPSSA Primary Athletics selections trial at Homebush. Tayla finished 2nd in discus with a throw of 29.37m and 4th in shot put with a throw of 10.27m. Her result in discus has qualified Tayla for the 2019 School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships in Darwin next month. What a busy couple of days – well done Tayla!
You can read more about Tayla in the Loreto Sports Girl section below.
Netball Schools Cup
Best of luck to our Year 10 netballers who will be taking part in the Sydney Metro Regional Finals of the Netball Schools Cup! They’ll be in action on Thursday at Sydney Olympic Park and we’ve got our fingers and toes crossed for them!
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Congratulations to Lara Al Amri (Year 12) who has been granted the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. The Gold Award requires dedication and perseverance to achieve and Lara has shown these qualities and more in attaining this Award. Well done Lara!
Year 12’s, HSC Trials and Sport
As our Year 12’s begin their Trial HSC period, it’s a good opportunity to remind all our families of the benefits of combining a regular physical activity program during periods of study to maximise their performance. According to Harvard Medical School, “the parts of the brain that control thinking and memory (the prefrontal cortex and medial temporal cortex) have greater volume in people who exercise versus people who don’t.”
All Year 12 students are required to attend all their regular training and matches during this exam period, unless there is a direct clash between an exam and a training session.
Wet Weather Information
A reminder for how to access information regarding ground closures due to wet weather for weekend sport. Please make sure you check the relevant website prior to leaving home to ensure your venue is open for play.

Correct Sport Uniform
An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:
Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will not be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
Loreto Sports Girl: Tayla Moore
Current sport/activity: My current sports are athletics and softball.
Favourite school sport/activity: I haven’t played much school sport this year but thoroughly enjoyed water polo earlier in the year having never played this sport before.
Highest level of sporting achievement: Winning a gold medal in Discus and 5th place in Shot Put at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in Melbourne last year and currently holding two NSW State Athletics Records in Shot Put and Discus.
Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: Breaking both the U11 Shot Put and U11 Discus records in the Loreto Athletics Carnival on Monday.
Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: Being in the grandstand at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Queensland, and then being given the competition number worn by Valerie Adams, the winner of the Commonwealth Games Shot Put event.
Best subject at school: My best subject is probably English, but one of my favourites is PE.
Any superstitions before playing sport: I wear lucky socks, have a special hairstyle and always eat a bowl of pasta before I compete.
Best tune to listen to before competing: I don’t really have a particular song that I listen to, but I do enjoy listening to a variety of music before I compete.
We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport but, unfortunately, we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to email@example.com.
