Rowing
Well done to Claire Evans (Year 10) – during the school holidays, she competed in the 2019 US Rowing Junior National Championships in Ohio. She was selected in the Sydney University Boat Club U17 Women’s squad and reached the semi-finals of the U17 quad sculls. Way to go, Claire.
Swimming
Great job by Maddison Hinds (Year 8), who was competing at the School Sports Australia National Swim Titles in Melbourne this week. Maddie swam in the Multiclass 13-15 years 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 200m IM and 100m backstroke, finishing 5th, 6th, 4th and 5th respectively! She smashed her PB in three of those events which is a phenomenal achievement – well done Maddie!
Year 12’s, HSC Trials and Sport
As our Year 12’s begin their Trial HSC period, it’s a good opportunity to remind all our families of the benefits of combining a regular physical activity program during periods of study to maximise their performance. According to Harvard Medical School, “the parts of the brain that control thinking and memory (the prefrontal cortex and medial temporal cortex) have greater volume in people who exercise versus people who don’t.”
All year 12 students are required to attend all their regular training and matches during this exam period, unless there is a direct clash between an exam and a training session.
Wet Weather Information
A reminder for how to access information regarding ground closures due to wet weather for weekend sport. Please make sure you check the relevant website prior to leaving home to ensure your venue is open for play.

Correct Sport Uniform
An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:
Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will not be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
Loreto Sports Girl: Aoife Berry
My current sports are snowboarding, touch football, AFL, hockey and basketball.
My favourite school sport is cricket because I’ve been playing it since I was little (with my family).
My highest level of sporting achievement was getting to State level for snowboarding in GS (giant slalom) and boarder cross.
My best moment of Loreto Sport was getting the Primary Cross Country Age Champion award. I got it last year and I was
so excited. I felt like I was leading Dorothea to victory.
My favourite sporting moment as a spectator was when Scott McLaughlin won his car race. He was in a Shell Mustang car.
My best subject at school is Visual Arts.
I have no superstitions before playing sport, but if I could take someone’s I would take Raphael Nadal’s, who has many.
The best tune to listen to before competing is The Dogs are Talking by The Angels because it
psyches me up.
Photos
We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport but, unfortunately, we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.
If you’re on Twitter, you can follow us at @loretonhsport – tweet us and use the hashtag #LetsGoLoreto and we’ll retweet as many as we can!
