Secondary School Athletics Carnival

What an amazing day we had on Tuesday for the Secondary School Athletics Carnival. The conditions were perfect and the stadium was full of colour and noise as our students competed across track and field for a chance to represent LN at the IGSSA Carnival in Term 3. The levels of participation were amazing – almost too amazing to the point that not all events were able to be completed on the day of the carnival! There are still some 200m and 800m races to be run, so I’m not able to provide any results from the Carnival just yet, but as soon as those events are done, I’ll provide a full run down in the newsletter. A big thanks to our House Captains and Sport Leaders who did such a wonderful job coordinating their Houses to make the day as enjoyable as always!

NSWCIS Cross Country

On Thursday, we had 10 students representing IGSSA at the NSWCIS Cross Country Carnival. The girls all ran tremendously well – special mention to Charlotte Ryan (Year 12) and Georgia Arcus (Year 10) who both picked up bronze medals in their respective races! Check out the table below for a summary of all the results from the day.

Year 8

CIS Cup Football

Our CIS Cup run has unfortunately come to an end as the CIS Cup team went down to a very talented Mamre Anglican School team in the Quarterfinals of the CIS Football Cup. It was a tense first half, with Mamre taking a 1-0 advantage into the half time break. The second half saw some amazing football from both sides, and whilst there was a glimmer of hope when Eloise Hansen (Year 11) pulled a goal back to make it 3-1, unfortunately it was not to be and Mamre ran out 4-1 winners. Another great Cup run in the books and fingers crossed that next year can provide the elusive title.

North West Equestrian Expo – Coonabarabran

What an amazing extended weekend of horse riding from our student equestriennes, with 14 students competing at the annual North West Equestrian Expo in Coonabarabran. There were some wonderful performances from all of students, with special mention to the following girls recording the top three results:

  • Scarlet Pidcock (Year 10): 3rd – Combined Training 1
  • Ruby Dew (Year 7): 3rd – Bending
  • Jala Fitzsimmons (Year 7): 2nd – Combined Training 5
  • Sophie Maclean (Year 7): 1st – Flag

Congratulations to Bridie Cooksey and Sarah Caspers who were the Coona Captain and Vice Captain respectively. A huge thanks to Jane Denny, Kerri Barr and the parent group who did a fantastic job of coordinating all aspects of Coona and getting our students ready to ride each morning!

More amazing news for Juliet Lahood (Year 11) – she has been selected into the Australian Open team for the Pacific Games and Oceania Taekwondo Championships which will be held in Samoa later this year! This was her first Senior selection event as she is now competing in the Open. Juliet was competing in the -46kg Open female division and finished in 1st place! Way to go Juliet!

Correct Sport Uniform

An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:

Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will not be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
