IGSSA Swim & Dive Championships
History was made at the IGSSA Swim & Dive Championships on Friday as the Loreto Normanhurst squad finished 4th overall, achieving the highest position in our school’s history for this competition. Each girl swam with the squad goal in mind: “every place in every race” and it showed! Almost 80% of the swimmers and relay teams made finals and there were some amazing races across the board. Congratulations to Abby Hartshorne (Year 11), Felicity Smith (Year 9), Maddison Hinds (Year 8), Claudia Stratton (Year 9) and members of the 6 x 50m All Age Relay team, who have all been selected in the IGSSA Squad to swim at the CIS Championships in May. A big thanks to Bobby Hurley for his coaching and preparation of the squad in the lead up to the event and to alumni Jackie Feurtado, who looked after the squad on the day of the Championships.
Well done to our Tildesley Tennis squad, who competed over Wednesday and Thursday this week at Pennant Hills Park Tennis Centre. Special mention to Faith Zalm (Year 11) in the singles, and Hannah Nicholson (Year 11) and Emma Davies (Year 11) in the doubles, who were able to progress to Round 3 of the tournament. A top effort by all the girls involved, and thanks go to Steve Thompson for coaching the squad and overseeing the efforts across the two days.
School Tennis Championships
We had Annabelle Gohl (Year 9) and Hannah Nicholson (Year 11) Vs Abbey Curtin (Year 10) and Eliza Vardy (Year 10) in the School Tennis Championships Doubles Final last Friday. In the singles final Hannah Nicholson played Annabelle Gohl. Well done to these girls for making the finals. Results were as follows:
- School Doubles Champions: Annabelle Gohl & Hannah Nicholson
- School Doubles Runners Up: Abbey Curtin & Eliza Vardy
- School Singles Champion: Annabelle Gohl
- School Singles Runner Up: Hannah Nicholson
IGSSA Semi Finals
This Saturday marks the transition to the business end of the Term 1 Sport season, with semifinals getting underway for IGSSA Softball, IGSSA Tennis and Loreto Normanhurst Invitational Badminton. Unfortunately, there is rain predicted across Sydney tomorrow so please check the IGSSA/IPSHA wet weather sites listed below before leaving home. Best of luck to all teams competing this weekend – let’s extend that season for one more week!
Our Senior Rowers are finishing off their season this week, competing at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta out at SIRC. Grace Gillies (Year 10) rowed her U/17’s single skull earlier this week and was unlucky not to progress from the repechage round. A composite crew in the U19’s coxless quad skull featuring Laura Gourley (Year 12) and Lucy Illek (Year 12) breezed through their head and will row in the final at 8:20am on Saturday morning. The Loreto Normanhurst Schoolgirl Coxed Quad, made up of Bridie Cooksey (Year 11), Harriet Perosin (Year 12), Laura Gourley (Year 12) and Lucy Illek (Year 12), and coxed by Elizabeth Bolster (Year 10) also rowed a very controlled heat on Thursday afternoon which sees them progress straight to the semi-final, which will take place from 11:55am on Saturday, followed by the finals on Sunday morning. The entire event is being livestreamed and you can find the link on the Rowing Australia website here. Good luck, girls!
Congratulations to Emily Paterson (Year 6) who has been selected for the IPSHA Netball team. She’ll go on to compete at the CIS Championships later this year – good luck Emily!
Congratulations to Sigourney Berkery (Year 10) who represented IGSSA at the CIS U/16’s Hockey Championships on Tuesday and has been selected into the NSWCIS U/16’S Hockey team. Best of luck, Sigourney!

Correct Sport Uniform
An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:
Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will NOT be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
