Triathlon

Last Friday we had 30 students in action at SIRC as they competed in the NSW All Schools Teams Triathlon. The competition was fierce due to the restricted entries in place and our girls didn’t disappoint – the highlight was our 1st Senior team of Breanna Ivankovic (Year 12), Charlotte Ryan (Year 12) and Gabriella Black (Year 12) combining for an unbelievable 6th place overall and 3rd in the CIS. Another fantastic display was from the 1st Intermediate team, with Lily King (Year 9), Arabella Price (Year 9) and Georgia Arcus (Year 10) finishing 17th overall and 6th in the CIS. An amazing effort by all involved – well done girls!

IPSHA Swimming

On Tuesday this week, our Primary Swim and Dive Squad was on show out at SOPAC at the IPSHA Swim & Dive Championships. Fourteen students suited up and there were ribbons galore as the girls did a fantastic job of swimming their hearts out and leaving it all in the pool. Check out our Facebook page for more photos of the girls and their awards!

IGSSA Representative Hockey

Congratulations to Sophie Fanning (Year 8) and Sigourney Berkery (Year 10) who have been selected to trial for the IGSSA U16’s Representative Hockey team at Olympic Park next Tuesday – best of luck, girls!

Sport & Open Day

Come on down to the gym this Saturday from 11am to check out Sport’s interactive display for the Loreto Normanhurst Open Day. We’ll have plenty of things to try and a chance to check out the Hayden Fitness Centre.

Please note that all students are still expected to participate in their regular scheduled Sport fixtures this weekend before heading in for some Open Day fun.

Duke of Edinburgh

Unfortunately some technical difficulties with the Duke of Edinburgh registration website meant that we were unable to run our registration session for students on Wednesday afternoon, however all students who have nominated have now received a ‘how to’ guide to complete their online registration. As a reminder, students need to complete their online registrations prior to the training day that will take place on Sunday 17th March.

Wet Weather Information

With a few clouds around, a reminder for how to access information regarding ground closures due to wet weather for weekend sport. Please make sure you check the relevant website prior to leaving home to ensure your venue is open for play.

Correct Sport Uniform

An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:

Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will NOT be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.

Loreto Sports Girl:  Charlotte Ryan

Current sport/activity: At the moment my focus is in athletics, although as the athletics season is drawing to a close in a few weeks I will move straight into the cross country season.

Favourite school sport/activity: Athletics/Cross Country.

Highest level of sporting achievement: I have competed (scattered over a few years) at Cross Country Nationals, Australian Junior Athletics Championships, and was part of the Triathlon Team for Nationals a few years ago. In the past athletics season I received medals at NSW and ACT State Athletics Championships.

Best moment of Loreto Sport for you: My best moment of Loreto Sport has been competing and medalling every year from Year 7 to 12 at the NSW All Schools Team Triathlon. The Normo spirit and support on this day is one of my favourite memories of Normo sport.

Favourite sporting moment as a spectator: My favourite sporting moment as a spectator was watching the Men’s Open 800m Final at the 2017 Australian Athletics Championships as the race was very tactical and interesting to watch to learn from.

Best subject at school: I really love Aboriginal studies and PDHPE.

Any superstitions before playing sport: I have to eat the same race day breakfast no matter what race it is (just a club race or Nationals). This is two pieces of toast with peanut butter, sliced banana, chia and pepita seeds with a drizzle of honey over it with black tea.

Best tune to listen to before competing: I actually don’t listen to music before I compete as I find it quite distracting although I like to do my long runs whilst listening to my Spanish playlist.

Photos

We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport but, unfortunately, we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.

If you’re on Twitter, you can follow us at @loretonhsport – tweet us and use the hashtag #LetsGoLoreto and we’ll retweet as many as we can!
