Welcome and Welcome back
And we’re off! On behalf of Sport, I’d like to welcome all the new students and parents to the school and welcome back our returning families – it’s going to be another fantastic year of sport at Normo, with the veritable smorgasbord of sport ahead of us in 2019!
New Faces
We welcome two ‘new’ faces into the Sport Department in 2019 – I say ‘new’ because they’ve both been huge contributors to the school prior to this year as coaches, with Mr Steve Charters (ex-Senior 1sts Football Coach) and Mrs Chloe Congdon (ex-Head Rowing Coach) both coming on board. We welcome them and I know their experience and knowledge are going to be huge assets to the department and the school going forward.
January Rowing Camp
What an incredible week! During the 3rd week of January our rowers were already working, taking part in the annual January Rowing Camp, which returned to Canberra this year. An old adage in sport is you can only control the controllables, and the weather certainly didn’t fit into that category with temperatures up and over 40 degrees for most of the camp. That heat did nothing to deter the girls, who gave their all in preparation for the second half of the season ahead. A big thank you to everyone involved, including Ms Jess Levy and the members of the Sport Department, Mr Matt Curtin and his tremendous group of coaches, the parents who were able to keep our rowers fuelled up across the week and last but not least, the rowers who put in so much effort across the week – bring on the next regatta!
Year 7 grading day
On Saturday 2nd February, there will be a final grading day for all students who are taking part in a Term 1 Sport this year. Students in Year 7 who are playing IGSSA Tennis, IGSSA Softball and LN Badminton will meet in the Gymnasium at 7:45am on Saturday morning. Grading sessions will run from 8am to 10am to allow our coaches and staff to finalise the teams for the upcoming season. Sport-specific gear, such as softball mitts and tennis racquets will be available for students to borrow for the sessions, however all students need to bring their cap and a water bottle. Students playing softball must also bring shin pads and a mouthguard.
IGSSA Draws
We are currently waiting on IGSSA to release the draws for softball and tennis – once the draws are finalised, we will distribute them as soon as possible to all students involved.

correct sport uniform
An important note regarding correct sport uniform for Saturday competition sport:
Students who are not dressed in the correct uniform for competition will NOT be allowed to play. In the case that a Loreto Sport Staff member is not present, your team coach will have the authority to remove a student from play and/or not allow a student to start play. Thank you in advance, for your cooperation in this matter. It is our expectation that you will be appropriately dressed and in uniform while representing Loreto Normanhurst. Please see your sport specific booklets for full details on what uniform is required for your sport.
PHOTOS
We love seeing photos of our girls enjoying sport but, unfortunately, we can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re out and about over the weekend at your daughter’s fixtures, please send through any snaps you get to sport@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.
