Social Justice

Hello everyone – just an update of our Social Justice work! During the colder months we are focusing on locally based initiatives. It’s really fantastic to see so much more active involvement – this was one of my goals at the start of my leadership so I am incredibly happy and proud with the growth of our Social Justice portfolio.

Ms Timmins and my focus for the next two terms is based around ongoing drives to support Sydney’s homeless working with a number of different organisations including Wrap with Love, Share the Dignity and Towels for Talbot. We will launch our official drives for these next week! In addition to knitting squares in our JPIC meetings we have been hosting Knit-ins on a Friday lunch time whilst watching Modern Family. We have had a great response and plenty of people coming along which is super pleasing to see!

Green Team has been booming of late as well. In line with our ecology focus we have seen numerous developments within all facets of the school such as biodegradable beads replacing laminated badges on Loreto Day. Recently, in the boarding school we have shifted to a more sustainable ordering system enabling us to order in advance which significantly reduces food waste. Last Tuesday a group of us were fortunate enough to attend the annual Mt St Benedict Social Justice forum – it was a fantastic evening and we are all so privileged to have heard Professor Tim Flannery speak. A big thank you to all the girls and teachers involved – you are all the drivers behind our great movement!
