ICAS Science  Competition

The ICAS Science competition, conducted by Educational Assessment Australia (from the University of New South Wales), will be held on Tuesday 30th of May. It involves no cost to you and is a great way for students to test their science knowledge and skills against students from across NSW.

The competition takes place each year in schools throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Region and provides an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation.

At Loreto Normanhurst, all students in Year 7 participate in the competition and are entered automatically. If your daughter is in Year 7 and you don’t wish her to participate, please contact me to have her entry withdrawn.

Any student from Years 8 to 12 may choose to enter. If you would like your daughter to participate she needs to submit her details by clicking here.

Entries close on Monday 1st May. (No entries can be accepted after this date.)

All students receive a certificate and an individual results letter indicating which questions they answered correctly, their total score as well as their average compared with the rest of the students in the state/region. These documents are suitable for inclusion in a portfolio.

Certificates are awarded for each year level as follows:

  • High Distinction to the top 1% of entrants
  • Distinction to the next 10% of entrants
  • Credit to the next 25% of entrants
  • Merit for the next 10% of entrants
  • Participation to all other participating students.

Medals are awarded to the top students in each year level in each state.
