Next week marks the final farewell for Year 12 from formal schooling. On Monday morning ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ sung by Sarah Brightman will ring out as the bell letting us know that the final days for Year 12 have arrived. Thursday afternoon and Friday will be a time of blessing and sending forth with the whole senior school involved in the beautiful and sacred celebrations as well as the celebration of gifts and talents at the Year 12 Awards Ceremony next Friday.
As these school days draw to a close it is time for our Loreto women to reflect on their schooling and the journey they have taken as individuals and with their parents and school. An attitude of gratitude should prevail at this time for the support and love shared with our Year 12 girls throughout their school life. As they have passed through pre-school, kindergarten and primary school and then their journey at Loreto Normanhurst each of these phases has been important in shaping the women they are. As this final week commences for Boarders with their final Mass on Sunday night and then for all on Monday let us keep all of Year 12 and their parents, families and those that have educated them in our prayers as they finalise this chapter of their lives.
This week we had a very special assembly filled with music, sports presentations, ecology updates and two very special visitors. Sr Monika Glockann CJ is a sister of the Congregatio Jesu of the IBVM. Sr Monika spoke of her love of Mary Ward and her time spent walking in her ways and in following her footsteps of pilgrimage from Liege to Rome. Her stories were inspirational and heart-warming. We also had the pleasure of listening to Rachel Chand, our Work and Welcome candidate who has been working at the school this term. Work and Welcome is a program I have mentioned before where the staff of the school give a portion of their wage to pay the wage of a newly arrived refugee to Australia. Rachel has had her wage paid by the staff for her term of work at Loreto where she was also able to gain brilliant work experience. It was lovely for us all to listen to her story and to support her in her new life in Australia.
This week Ms Grace Paraino, Dean of Development and Alumni, was awarded the Educate Plus President’s Award which honours the member who has made the most outstanding contribution to the NSW Chapter over the last year. Educate Plus is a national organisation which works to develop and provide support, networks and PD opportunities for those working in the role of advancement within the education sector. Grace is the current Vice President of the NSW Chapter and has chaired the Committee which put together this week’s Educate Plus Conference for over 180 delegates. We congratulate Ms Paraino on her award and thank her for her hard work for Loreto as well.
Congratulations to the students who are currently performing in the ‘Spelling Bee’ Musical at Knox this week and weekend. We wish them well for the final performances. They are Samantha Barron, Madeleine Campbell, Sara Horan, Madeline Low, Ella McKenzie, Ava Nalywajko, Mya-Rose San Diego, and Emilia Weeding. They are our Team of the Week!!
Well done to Year 11 who have traversed their examinations well over the last two weeks and congratulations to all of our sportswomen who have played this term. It is great to see the camaraderie and developing skill in sports this term. Some teams have made it to the Finals and Grand Finals this weekend and we wish them well.
Give to us God the courage to enter into this moment in time,
Into this gathering of your disciples,
Into this time of grace.
Give to us God the courage to enter
into the possibilities that lie before us,
like shells on the sea shore
waiting to be discovered.
Give to us God the courage to enter into the tasks and
challenges before us in a spirit of exploration and generosity,
in the spirit of your Son.
Give to us God the courage to enter into the ideas and suggestions to be voiced
and to hear them with an open and receptive ear,
alive to the wisdom they contain.
Give to us God the courage to enter into your presence,
the courage to be carried along by your power
reaching out to bless us.
With prayers of peace and hope,
Ms Barbara Watkins
