Primary School News

The greatest challenge is to bring about a revolution of the heart, a revolution which has to start with each one of us. – Dorothy Day

Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. It is a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity and to share what we have in common. The central message for Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians.

Next Wednesday, to celebrate Harmony Day, the whole school will come together in the Secondary School Quad at lunchtime for cultural dancing, music and food. This day will be a mufti day; students are asked to wear a splash of orange or share their heritage and come in cultural dress. Please bring a gold coin, so that as a community we can help raise awareness and tolerance for all.

The countdown to the Loreto Normanhurst Music Festival is on. Just a reminder that the girls will be dismissed at 12.30pm on Friday 8 April. The canteen will be closed as well, so please bring recess and lunch. The afternoon arrangements are as follows:

  • Please pick up your daughter from the Primary School at 12.30pm
  • Private bus services for students currently travelling on this service will be here at 12.35pm.
  • Normal bus and train services will operate from 3.15pm
  • OSHClub will be available for girls who cannot be collected at 12.30pm. Please enroll with OSHClub at oshclub.com.au then click join – create account – make bookings.
  • All students return in full uniform to the State Sports Centre by 6.15pm

In the Primary School this week…

Library

The focus of library lessons this term has been on developing a love of literature and reading for pleasure.  The students have been utilising the Premier’s Reading Challenge Booklist to assist them in selecting a wide range of literature.

All students in the Primary School have been encouraged to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year, which involves reading 20 books by August 19th 2016.  The girls are to log on to the PRC website to submit their reading lists online.

Congratulations to the four students who have already completed the challenge.  They are : Cheri Hui, Eliza Rossell, Scarlett Harsas and Isabelle Reid.

All PRC usernames and passwords will be issued to students by the end of the term. More information about the PRC can be obtained from the PRC website at https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html.

The students have also been gaining skills in the use of the school’s catalogue. The catalogue can be accessed through the girls’ iPads to search for resources from the Primary School Library and the LRC. The girls can also reserve books and post book reviews onto the catalogue.

Happy Reading!

Dance Fitness Club

Next term, I am very excited to offer a dance fitness club during second half of lunch on Tuesday. I have noticed that a large proportion of the girls in the Primary School enjoy grooving to music so this will be a great opportunity for them to let out their inner dancer while also getting a tremendous cardio workout. I am also hoping to discover any budding choreographers. So if you love to organise, plan and create your own routines and you think this club is for you, come and register your name before the end of Term 1.

Jazz hands unite!
