Primary School News
Be thou the rainbow in the storms of life. The evening beam that smiles the clouds away, and tints tomorrow with prophetic ray.
On my drive to work on Tuesday morning the most surprising thing happened. In the distance stretched out across the sky, I saw the largest rainbow I have ever seen in my life. Although, given that it was the 120th Anniversary of the laying of the Foundation Stone at Loreto Normanhurst, it should have been no surprise at all.
We began the day with a celebration of the history of Loreto Normanhurst, which described in images, song and dance the beautiful tapestry that is Loreto Normanhurst. This was followed by a glorious Eucharist to celebrate this very special occasion.
After a delicious cupcake for morning tea, a community event followed, which saw the students playing games, from quoits and marbles to Monopoly and Mastermind, echoing our focus on tradition and innovation. As Gabrielle Milkins from Year 6 said, ‘I loved sharing my birthday with Loreto Normanhurst. I found out so much about Loreto that I didn’t know’.
Last Friday Year 6 came together to celebrate the gift of leadership in a joyous Liturgy. All students were called to be part of the rich Loreto tradition and to lead by example in the way they live and speak and the choices they make. The students were called to live out the values of Freedom, Justice, Felicity, Sincerity and Verity.
Year 6 made a promise to pledge their commitment and in particular how they will use their gifts to serve our community and lead the Primary School. The students also wrote individual pledges which illustrated how carefully they had thought about this great responsibility. As one student said, ‘I pledge to be a responsible and honest leader. I will try my best to live out the Loreto values throughout my whole Loreto School Life, I will serve our community and hold my head up high’.
Each student then came forward to be anointed by Ms Watkins and the girls who had been elected to leadership roles were presented with their badges. We concluded the service with a prayer for our Year 6 leaders and a beautiful blessing sung by Lilya Ragg and Elyse Stephens. Students and parents then joined together in the Primary School to enjoy a celebratory morning tea.
Our annual Open Day is to be held at school on Saturday 11 March from 11.00am – 3.00pm. This is the time we open the school to prospective families who are considering a Loreto Normanhurst education for their daughter. This will be an opportunity to experience the School ‘in action’ with activities during the day as well as special displays, performances and presentations. Students are to wear their summer dress and blazer.
Your daughter will bring home an Open Day Commitment Card. To fill in the card your daughter will sign up to an activity for at least two hours on the day. If she is unable to attend Open Day your daughter will stay back on Friday after the other students leave at lunchtime to complete her commitment. The Private Bus service will leave at 12.35pm in addition to the usual afternoon services.
If you are coming to Open Day, you need to be prepared for some congestion around the school. There will be event parking on the school oval which can be accessed via Osborn Road. If you need to park in the streets please consider our neighbours and park legally without blocking any driveways. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please note that bookings for the April Holiday Program will be running from April 10 – April 24 2017. (OSH Club will be closed on April 13 for Easter Thursday, April 14, April 17 and April 25 due to National Public Holidays). The brochure for the program will be available four weeks prior to the Holiday Program starting. To book the dates you require please log into your account at www.oshclub.com.au
