Primary School News

No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted.

This week we had the greatly anticipated Principal’s Spelling Bee. There was great excitement and a few nerves as the 30 finalists took to their seats. The girls performed beautifully as the audience cheered them on. The final three spellers: Audrey Kha, Emily Singh and Pavarisa Wen competed for four rounds, spelling word after word until Audrey and Pavarisa became the final two. In the end, there was only one letter between the girls with Audrey Kha winning the title of best speller in the Primary School for 2016. Many thanks to the parents who attended, Ms Watkins, Ms Green, our very well-spoken pronouncer, and to the teachers for supporting the girls through this process and encouraging them to become passionate about words.
Today eight girls were selected to represent Loreto Normanhurst Primary School at the IPSHA Debating Gala Day at Barker College. Saoirse Watkins, Clare Horan, Chloe Mackay and Jessica Webster debated in the affirmative that ‘Homework for Primary School Children Should be Banned.’ Veronica Dodd, Ella McKenzie, Cheri Hui and Brigid Quirk debated in the negative that, ‘The Olympic Games were a waste of money.’
Our girls spoke confidently and put to use the many skills of debating they had learnt over the past few weeks. Congratulations not only to the girls that went to the gala day but all the girls that took part in the debating skills coaching sessions. We hope these budding debaters will continue to debate next year in the secondary school. A special thank you to Ms Brandon, Ms O’Dwyer and the Year 10 girls who gave up their time and shared their wisdom and talent with the girls.
Congratulations to the following girls who received pleasing results in the ICAS Mathematics Assessment:
