Friendship is a sheltering tree.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

There was excitement in the air on Wednesday as the Primary School welcomed returning students and our bright and shiny Year 5 girls to commence the school year. The girls quickly found their lockers, their Year 6 buddies and their place in the Learning Common. It is a joy to welcome the girls and their families into the Loreto Normanhurst community.

Parents enjoyed the opportunity to share the very first moments of their daughter’s first day in the Primary School. Inevitably the time came for parents to say goodbye and move to the Oak Tree lawn for morning tea where members of the leadership team were also in attendance.

After the girls settled into their classrooms and learning spaces, there was much joy, laughter and the beginnings of new friendships. Highlights from this week included House Time and walking to the Senior School for specialist lessons in Art, Music, PE and then back to the Primary School for Chinese. We visited the Chapel and started to learn about the history, values and traditions we have at Loreto and we will begin to learn the musical items that we will be performing at the whole school Music Festival. The week ended with exciting House games, organised and run by our House Leaders which involved general knowledge about Loreto Normanhurst and outdoor games in the grounds.

Rachael, Fleur, Alyssa, Sana and Sarah from Year 5 summed up their experiences so far;

“I enjoyed making new friends, getting to know my teacher and organising my student handbook.”

Rachel Antony

“There are so many activities to do and lots of books in the library which is great because I love reading.”

Fleur Manion

“I have enjoyed everything, especially spending time with my buddy.”

Alyssa Blackman

“I love the colourful glass classrooms, and enjoyed making new friends, organising my locker and catching the train.”

Sana Shah and Sarah Hayek

It has been wonderful to observe how seamlessly our new students have transitioned and integrated into the community.
