Last Friday, we had the highly anticipated Principal’s Spelling Bee. There was great excitement and a few nerves as the 30 finalists took to their seats. The girls performed with confidence as the audience cheered them on. The final three spellers: Trinity Hanna, Carina Wen and Evie Byrne-Fister fought it out for the final places. In the end, Evie won the title of best speller, Carina in second place and Trinity in third place. Many thanks to our special guest Ms Ugonotti, to Ms Bateman, our very well-spoken pronouncer, and to the teachers for supporting the girls through this process and encouraging them to become passionate about words.

News from the Primary School Library
Write a book in a day
Write a Book in a Day (WABIAD) is a creative writing competition in which teams plan, write, edit and illustrate a story in just one day. The competition is organised by The Kids’ Cancer Project and raises funds for research. Completed books are distributed to children in hospitals across Australia.
This year, 23 Primary School students competed in the WABIAD challenge. The students were:
|Year 5||Year 6|
We decided to extend this opportunity to all students in the Primary School and so the girls have been working in teams to create books during library lessons this term. The completed books will be showcased in the LRC later in the year.
Congratulations to all students for your participation. As well as displaying your great joy and creativity, you have each shown your dedication, excellent collaborative skills and resilience under pressure.
Our Book Week celebrations this year began with our Author Visit (R.A. Spratt) last term and have continued into this term with our modified Book Character Dress-Up and Book Week Guessing Competition.
The students and staff enjoyed some drama presentations by Year 6 students followed by photographic shoots of the wonderful assortment of book characters. Congratulations to all students and parents for your efforts creating such amazing character outfits.
The winners of the Book Week Guessing Competition will be presented next week and will select their prizes from the Scholastic Book Catalogue.
PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE
A total of 80 students will be receiving their certificates at the end of Term 4, including a number who will be receiving special awards.

Primary Christmas Creations
At this time of the year, we would usually be looking forward to hosting Primary Mothers and Daughters for a Christmas Creations Afternoon to build a Gingerbread House. Unfortunately, we are unable to host parents onsite this year for this event, but all is not completely lost! We are still providing the opportunity to purchase Gingerbread House Kits so the whole family can join in on the fun at home.
Kits are $35 and include a gingerbread house, royal icing, cake board, cellophane and ribbon. All you need to do is provide lollies to personalise your creations.
Reserve your Gingerbread House Kit here.
Bookings need to be completed by Tuesday 3 November and kits will be sent home with your daughter on Friday 20 November.
Since we are unable to view your fantastic creations in person this year, we would love it if you could share photos of your family building your gingerbread house and your finished creation. Please send your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org. (Supplied photos may appear on social media, the website or in the school newsletter.)
