Public Speaking Competition
At the end of last term, we were treated to a wonderful day of outstanding entertainment. The Public Speaking Competition represented the culmination of a process of devising, refining and rehearsing speeches on topics that have captured the interest, imagination and passion of each of the girls. All of our Years 5 and 6 students are to be commended on participating in this process.
The girls had five universal themes to choose from to add depth, clarity and choice. The themes decided upon were beauty, courage, justice, truth and quality. We had the pleasure of witnessing thought-provoking speeches ranging from the courageous story of Malala and the very amusing Truthful Facts. The judges had a very tough decision but, in the end, Tayla Moore was awarded 3rd place, Daisy Manassen 2nd place and the winner was Monique Travers who spoke with great passion about the Muslim Concentration Camps in China under the topic ‘Justice and Truth’.
Thank you to the Primary staff for their support of the girls, to the adjudicators, Ms Bernadette O’Dwyer, Oratory Coordinator, and Ms Rebecca Birch, Acting Head of English, and of course, the Primary girls for showcasing their skill, inspiration and curiosity.
The HOPE Project
The Primary School is happy to partner once again with CatholicCare and the HOPE Program this Christmas. The HOPE Program supports vulnerable young mothers by providing a gift hamper for themselves and their baby. The program provides one-on-one support to young women aged 16-25 who are pregnant or have a child under the age of two and who have complex needs such as homelessness, mental health or a history of abuse or trauma. We are hoping to create 26 gift hampers, each with a present for the mother and baby.
Hip, hip, hooray to the following birthday girls. We hope you had a wonderful day!
Heidi, Emma, Zoe and Audrey.
Christmas Creations – Gingerbread House Kit
At this time of year, we would usually be looking forward to hosting Primary Mothers and Daughters for a Christmas Creations Afternoon to build a Gingerbread House!
Unfortunately we are unable to host parents onsite this year for this event, but all is not completely lost! We will still be providing the opportunity to purchase Gingerbread House Kits so the whole family can join in on the fun at home.
Kits are $35 and include a gingerbread house, royal icing, cake board, cellophane and ribbon, all you need to do is provide your own lollies to personalise your creation!
Reserve your Gingerbread House Kit here.
Bookings need to be completed by Tuesday 3 November and kits will be sent home with your daughter on Friday 20 November.
