Primary School

It was so lovely to see the girls return to school looking relaxed and rejuvenated for what will be a jam-packed Term 2.

We are looking forward to welcoming parents on-site for the Mathematics Evening next Monday. The night will be run by Dr Laurinda Lomas. Dr Lomas has been an educator in the independent and public sector for more than 20 years. This includes extensive time in K-6 classrooms as both a classroom teacher, gifted and talented and mathematics specialist and Deputy Principal. Dr Lomas has also worked as a Mathematics Consultant for the Association of Independent schools across NSW and has completed her doctoral studies in the teaching and learning of Mathematics. She will discuss our approach to Mathematics and will conclude the session with parents returning to the classroom to take part in some Mathematical problem solving and the opportunity to display their mathematical thinking. It certainly is a night not to be missed.

11th May – Periods 1 & 2 – Year 5 Writing

12th May – Periods 1 & 2 – Year 5 Reading

13th May – Periods 1 & 2 – Year 5 Language Conventions

14th May – Periods 1 & 2 – Year 5 Numeracy

Please be assured that your daughter is well prepared for NAPLAN, as the work that she completes across all of her subject areas is ample preparation for these assessments and there is no need to for her to undertake additional study.  Students have also engaged in online practice tests last term to familiarise themselves with the testing platform. Our key message is that these tests are diagnostic in nature, providing your daughter and her teachers with a snapshot on where she sits on the learning continuum for Numeracy and Literacy, and to identify the skills and areas where your daughter can experience future growth.  It would be appreciated if you could reinforce this message with your daughter in your conversations at home.

Your daughter will need to bring the following to the testing:

  • Laptop – fully charged
  • Headphones or ear buds – preferably plug in
  • A pen, as working out paper will be available

It would be appreciated if you could please support us in helping your daughter to be organised with these items.  The NAPLAN Information Sheet is provided for your reference.  Further information can be found on the NAPLAN website and samples of NAPLAN questions can be found on this link.

We have planned for catch up testing on 17th May.  If for some reason your daughter is unwell of the day of a NAPLAN test and is unable to attend school please email the Learning Office before 8.30am on the day of the tests.  We thank you for your assistance with ensuring your daughter is prepared on each day of the assessments.

Emma Dinca from Year 5 attended the Gymnastics State Championships during the holidays. Emma has now qualified in the NSW Team (top 6) which will represent NSW for Level 9 Under at the upcoming 2021 Australian Gymnastics Championships, held on the Gold Coast.
