Co-Presidents’ Message

What a wonderful few weeks we have had to commence Term 2 with, including a variety of social events for parents, students and staff to enjoy together. A few highlights are captured below from the events which took place last weekend:

Boarder Community “Main Event”, Friday 5 May 2017: Update provided by mrs sara roche, boarder liaison

Our Boarder Parents had a fabulous social evening last Friday. The theme was ‘Hollywood’ and so many parents got into the spirit and dressed up for the occasion, after a busy afternoon with Academic Plenaries. Parents came together with our entire boarding house for dinner and a relaxed catch-up in the gym. It is lovely, as parents, to see our girls relaxed with all their friends and enjoying their time as a Loreto Normanhurst boarder.

After-dinner entertainment was provided by each year group and every year our girls amaze us with the routines and costumes they can put together from what they have available in their dorms. To begin the entertainment, the Boarder Council had convinced the Year 12 Dads to join them on stage, including Peter Mullany, Bruce Gibson, Mark Dent and Basil Downes. As some of our parents were unavailable on the evening, seasoned Main Event performers, Chris Roche and his famous younger brother Max Downes were called upon to make a return appearance. This certainly got everyone into the spirit of the night.

The Boarder Council had organised for each Year Group to perform songs and dances from popular Hollywood musicals. These performances are judged by an unbiased staff panel, for the grand prize of a week’s supply of brownies for afternoon tea! The girls even encouraged Ms Barbara Watkins and Mrs Kate Kovacs to join them on stage in a ping pong “shaking” competition.

It is often difficult to get our boarder parents altogether in the same place at the same time, but this has become a ‘do not miss’ event for all of our families. We would like to thank the Boarder Student Council, along with the support of the amazing boarding staff for including all boarding families in such a fun celebration.

Year 7 Family Dinner, Saturday 6 May, 2017: Update provided by Mrs Jane Dalton – Co Vice President

The Year 7 Family Dinner was held on Saturday 6 May 2017, where 320 guests  ‘boot-scooted’ the night away.  It was a fantastic  evening where Year 7 parents could meet and mingle with their daughters and daughter’s friends, along with other Year 7 parents. Thank you very much to the Year 8 parent helpers, led by the Year 8 Parent  Coordinators and to Marisa Mauri-Dooris and Louise Hyde for the fabulous decorations.  A special thank you also to Sally Oong for acting as MC for the night.

Thank you to the Development Office  Team,  especially Miss Lauren Kirkby for the support and assistance offered in organising this event.

Mother / Daughter Eucharist, Sunday, 7 May, 2017, Years 5 – 12

A crisp autumn morning with blue skies and sunshine greeted our Mothers and Daughters as they arrived for the very special Mother/Daughter Eucharist on Sunday.  What better way to spend a Sunday morning than joining in prayer with our daughters and taking some precious time to stop and reflect on the beautiful Mother/Daughter bond and to give thanks through prayer for all of our unique gifts. As mothers and daughters came out into the sunshine following the Eucharist to enjoy some light refreshments in the lovely gardens, the chatter and laughter captured the essence of the event –  a celebration of our mothers  and daughters within the grounds and historic chapel of Loreto Normanhurst, that is so loved and treasured by the whole community.  Our thanks to Miss Lauren Kirkby, Louise Wytenburg and Sally Oong for their assistance in organising the event and to Mal Foubister and Rob Critchlow, for their assistance in serving Morning Tea.

Following  these wonderful events, we are already looking forward to the upcoming events listed below;

Friday 24 – Sunday 26 NOVEMBER

We want to ask all Mums to SAVE THE DATE for our eagerly awaited City/Country Mothers’ Weekend Away for 2017 following the great success of our 2016 event.

We are not following in the footsteps of the Dads, rather we are blazing our own trail, following on from our survey responses from participants last year, where the majority indicated that after visiting Mudgee, they would next like to explore the Orange region in 2017.

Several Mums have approached me, keen to be on the organising team for 2017 which is fantastic! If you would also like to join the organising team (also ok by phone if you are country based, which worked well last year), everyone is welcome. Please drop me an email  and we  can catch up by phone and/or face-to-face early in Term 2 to get some details locked in.

This year we will have Mums source their own accommodation to simplify logistics. I have been advised that the weekend we have chosen might be a little busy in Orange, so I suggest you source and book accommodation early!

We will send out the formal invitation with the deposit to secure your place early in Term 2, so keep your eye out for this email too!

There is  a lot to look forward to throughout this term and we hope to see you at one or more of these events. Thank you again to the PAL team for helping to coordinate these lovely social events, with the help of our Parent Co-ordinators and our wider parent community.

Finally, can we please ask you to consider purchasing an Entertainment Book once more.  See details below:
