Parent Association

Co-Presidents’ Message
What an extra special week this has been at Loreto Normanhurst, culminating in our celebration this evening when we will come together as a parent community for the 120 Years Cocktail Party. We hope to see you there and share a drink with you.
As a PAL Executive, our week started with the privilege of representing the wider parent community at the Celebration of the Eucharist ceremony, attended by students, staff and special guests, to commemorate the 120 Year anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone at Loreto Normanhurst. What an amazing experience. We all came away from this beautiful event admiring the vision and courage of the IBVM Loreto Sisters in their early work, establishing the school at Normanhurst and through their ongoing passion and commitment to Loreto Normanhurst today. We were also inspired by the great sense of pride, demonstration of faith, and strong feeling of school community present throughout the ceremony as students showcased their many gifts through song, dance and music. Definitely special memories for all the girls, faculty and guests to cherish into the future.
On another note, this week all parents had the chance to attend the feedback session on the findings and recommendations associated with the Sports review at Loreto Normanhurst. This was a very well attended session and it was helpful to reflect on the goals of sport at Loreto Normanhurst, whilst also hearing about the priority actions planned for 2017 and beyond. More details will follow, including a podcast of this session which was recorded on the night.
Upcoming Events
Gosh, autumn is now here…..how did that sneak up so fast?
Of course, with Autumn comes the Loreto Normanhurst Open Day, followed closely by the Annual City / Country Mothers’ Lunch and Music Festival, before we look toward the end of term with the Easter sacraments and school holidays…..but PAL need a little help before we all head off for that well earned break!!
Open Day Volunteers, Loreto Normanhurst
11am-3PM Saturday 11 march
This week we are once more calling for volunteers to help on two of the PAL related stalls that are present during Open Day: the Cake stall and the BBQ. Hourly spots for volunteers across the day can be booked here.
Please think about volunteering on the day or coming along to say hello and mingle with prospective new families to our school. This really is a fantastic community event where volunteers have a lovely fun-filled day, chatting with the general community and catching up with old and new friends from our Loreto Parent community. Hopefully we will see you there throughout the day!
Don’t forget to bake a cake for our fabulous Cake Stall which is a wonderful fundraiser for PAL. A cake pack will be sent home next week on Monday 6 March to all of our day families, so please look out for this and get ready to showcase those Master Chef skills. This year’s organisers, Kate Brown and Anna Boldiston, would appreciate all of your contributions and look forward to receiving them from 10.00am at the Cake Stall on Open Day, located next to the Curran Theatre. The final display is a sight to behold and truly a beautiful display of community at work!
City / Country Mothers’ Lunch, boarders’ dining room
11:30am Wednesday 29 March 2017
The City/Country Mothers’ Lunch is a real treat each year.
There is something very special about walking through the Boarding Reception area on this day, to attend the luncheon. As mums, grandmothers, aunts and friends arrive for the lunch there is always a story to be told. Whether it is an encounter with a large kangaroo on the journey to Sydney or a marathon six hour drive to make it in time for a glass of champagne on arrival, the rising noise levels, laughter and friendly hospitality shown by both city and country mums alike is a very special part of our school.
So, don’t miss out! Come along and soak up the atmosphere in the beautiful Boarders’ Dining Room. A place where you feel the history and the heritage that is the Boarding House of Loreto Normanhurst. If you do not know anyone else attending we will place you on a table with parents from your Year Group (this is what I did as a Year 7 mum and it was a lovely way to meet some parents from regional areas as well as meeting mothers from Sydney too).
Invitations will be sent out to parents in the next week or two, so please keep your eye out for this and book quickly as spaces are limited.
