Parent Association

From the  Co-Presidents

Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.

– Henry Ford

This quote resonated, following key Parent Association of Loreto (PAL) meetings, which took place this week at Loreto Normanhurst.

Firstly, Louise and I had the opportunity to get together with both current and new parents, who are interested in becoming Year Parent Coordinators, across the different school year groups. Our time together focussed on what the role entails and brainstorming  ideas on how to assist this group throughout 2016 to continue to foster the great spirit of teamwork & community that is part of the culture of Loreto Normanhurst.  Watch out for upcoming communications from Year Parent Coordinators from your year group, where they will introduce themselves and start a conversation about how your year group can come together this year.  Anyone who is still interested in becoming involved as a Year Parent Coordinator, please email either Sue or Louise, we would love to hear from you!

Secondly, we held our first general PAL meeting for the year on Wednesday evening. PAL meetings are a great chance to come together as a parent community and hear firsthand from Ms Watkins, the upcoming plans for the year ahead.  In addition, this forum provides the opportunity to ask questions on school related matters or PAL topics of interest. We were delighted to welcome new families to our first meeting for the year as well as welcoming back familiar faces.

Key PAL topics of discussion included;

Preparations for Open Day – we will call for volunteers in the next few weeks via email with a link to the  Try Booking system, to assist on PAL sponsored stalls on the day (Cakes, BBQ and Devonshire Teas).

Open Day Cake Stall Working Bee:

There will be a working bee on Friday, 4 March at 9:30am – 12:00pm (approx) in the Boarders’ Dining Room to put together the cake ‘packs’ for the Open Day Cake Stall. The Open Day Cake Stall is an annual fundraiser organised on behalf of PAL and contributes to PAL’s fundraising goals for the year.

Kate Brown is organising the Cake Stall this year and would very much appreciate your help at the working bee if possible. All are welcome and Morning Tea will be provided. We will need at least 20 people so if you can spare any time at all, Kate would be very grateful.

The working bee is an excellent opportunity to get together, meet new parents and friends and get involved with the Loreto community. If you would like to be a part of the working bee please contact Kate Brown on 0407 408 908 or We look forward to seeing you there!

In addition, we discussed the preparations that are underway for the Year 7 Family Dinner (click here for the invitation), City/Country Mothers Lunch and the Primary Parents Dinner, all taking place during Term 1.  Make sure you have these dates on your calendar and start talking with old and new friends about getting a table together for these special events.

Primary Update:

Following the Year Parent Coordinator’s meeting last night, we are delighted to have the following representatives for each class and are so grateful for their help and commitment;

Year 6

Cathy Duncan (Madeleine, Year 6) is also going to help us all, as although she is a Year 9 Parent Coordinator, she is going to assist our Primary Parents as well. For any Primary PAL questions please don’t hesitate to contact Caitilin Studdert via email or 0417 064 646.

We are going to plan some lovely informal social occasions throughout the year and will work together with PAL and the Primary School to help our parents and support the primary girls. We are really looking forward to a wonderful night at the Primary Parent Dinner on Monday 7 March. Thank you to Ms Watkins, Mrs Dywer and the Development Office for including all parents from Years 5 and 6 in this special invitation.

All the best to our gorgeous girls who are heading off on a school camp on Monday – for many, their first school trip away from family.
