Co-Presidents’ Message

Our very special annual Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day was held in the Chapel and the School Grounds last Friday and we would like to thank all Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ for attending this beautiful event and making the morning so special for our Year 7 students. 

Today we farewell Mrs Angie Smith from the Parent Association of Loreto Normanhurst (PAL). We thank her for her wonderful work as the PAL Boarder Liaison over the past few years.

Angie’s daughter Edwina graduated from Loreto Normanhurst in 2013, and Amelia is a member of the Class of 2016. We will miss Angie and wish her and her family the very best for the future. Angie takes many wonderful memories of Loreto Normanhurst with her, not the least of which are the recent graduation events for Amelia. She shares her final reflection with us below.

 

REFLECTIONS ON YEAR 12 GRADUATION EVENTS THROUGH THE EYES OF OUR Parent Association BOARDER LIAISON – Mrs ANGIE SMITH

“Year 12 Graduation for the Class of 2016 took place on Friday 16 September.  Friday was a culmination of numerous traditional farewell events for the girls that had taken place during the weeks before. There were breakfasts, morning teas, house farewells, afternoon teas, pink lady harbour cruise, appreciation dinners, final Eucharist, house liturgies, signing of graduation book and the releasing of the doves.  Friday is the day that we, as parents, are privileged to join our daughters in their celebrations. 

Many of these girls have been together since Year 7 and leaving involves countless tears mixed with anticipation and excitement as they face the world outside the beautiful gardens of Loreto Normanhurst. This has been “home” to the boarders of the Class of 2016.  The independence and resilience they have all gained will support them for life’s experiences. Lifelong friendships have been formed by all the girls and they perhaps don’t realise the strength of those friendship until they will be needed.

For many parents, it was our last daughter leaving. We all enjoyed our last Year 12 Awards Ceremony, relished our last Year 12 Boarder & Parents Graduation Luncheon and toasted our last Graduation Eucharist and Dinner.  A special day and evening was enjoyed as we remembered happy times spent together during our daughter’s education at Loreto Normanhurst.  This encompassed a wonderful mix of country, city and overseas families who all spent time together supporting our girls on the sideline at sporting events, cheering at regattas, enjoying working together to make the Spring Fair such a wonderful day, served on various Committees, had a fabulous time at the City/Country Mothers Lunch and applauded the talent of the girls at the Music Festival (to name just a few).

Thank you to Ms Barbara Watkins,  Ms Marina Ugonotti, Mrs Kate Kovacs, Mrs Jacqueline Adams and all the wonderful staff, dedicated parents and charming girls of Loreto Normanhurst for making all of this possible.  It has been a privilege and a pleasure to be part of such a great school.”

 

FUNDRAISING FINALE FOR 2016 – TUITION Fee RAFFLE – LAUNCH NOVEMBER

The Parent Association is delighted to announce a very exciting Tuition Fee Raffle Draw taking place during November, 2016.  This raffle is very special.  There will only be 300 tickets sold at a price of $100.00 per ticket.  They will be sold via the Try Booking system and once sold out no more will be available. There will be only ONE winner and one grand 1st prize…. a $15,000 credit on tuition fees for 2017.   Eligibility is restricted to families with a student currently enrolled in 2016.   A detailed Terms & Conditions information sheet will be despatched to all families next week with the Try Booking system open for sales from 9.00am on Monday 7 November, 2016.  Closing date will be 3.00pm on Thursday 8 December, 2016 unless the 300 tickets have sold out earlier. This is a wonderful way to raise funds for the school whilst also providing a generous prize to a lucky family.   Don’t miss out – keep your eye out for the email and the Try Booking link that will be provided to buy your ticket/s. Mother / daughter dinner, Saturday 29 October, 2016 epping club, 6:15pm

Tickets for the Mother/Daughter Dinner have now sold out. We look forward to welcoming 400 mums and daughters to the Epping Club  tomorrow night  as we share a meal , enjoy some laughter and make special memories with our daughters and friends. 

 

Parent Association (PAL) ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 16 November 2016, Curran Theatre, 7:30pm – please add to your diary

Our Annual General Meeting for the Parent Association of Loreto (PAL) will take place on Wednesday 16 November, 2016.  At this  time we will wrap up the year and elect our new committee members for 2017.  If you are interested in becoming involved in the PAL Committee, please feel free to give myself or Louise a call to discuss.  Keep an  eye out for the official notification of this meeting  which will be sent out via email  shortly, including a nomination form if you would like to be considered for a role on the team – all are welcome! Even if you are not interested in a committee role, come along and hear an update on the school’s plans for the future, how we are progressing with the Strategic Plan and so much more!  We hope to see you there.

 

What About a Dads Weekend Away? 

In case you missed this last week, spread the word! We are interested to know your thoughts and/or interest in attending a City/Country Dads Weekend Away in 2017. 

For our inaugural weekend away we are looking at Orange. We want to understand the level of interest for this type of event and put together a small team of dads across both city and country to make this happen in Autumn 2017 if there is sufficient interest. 

So please drop me a note if you  might be interested in attending this event and/or if you would like to get involved to explore organising a weekend away with other Dads – mal_foubister@lifetrack.com.au. All welcome across Years 5 – 12.
