Parent Association

From the  Co-Presidents

From the Co-Presidents:

This week we held our first Parent Association of Loreto (PAL) Executive Meeting for the year. It was great to be together as a team once more for our city based team members and also lovely to receive an update via email from Angie Smith, the PAL Boarder Representative, who recounted how successfully the Boarder families have settled into the school year. We were also delighted to hear that the “Welcome to 2016 Event” for Boarder Parents was a wonderful catch up for returning families who in turn warmly welcomed new families to Loreto Normanhurst. We also enjoyed hearing updates from our Primary PAL team representative Caitlin Studdert, about events and happenings for our youngest Loreto students and their families. All parents across Years 5 and 6 have been invited to the Primary Parents’ Dinner which will take place on Monday 7 March. This is a fabulous opportunity for both existing primary parents to catch up at the beginning of the year, and to welcome our new Year 5 and 6 families to the Loreto community.

As a PAL team, our time together this week focussed on early planning for key school & PAL events that will be taking place this year. In particular, we started planning for Term 1 events:

1. Open Day, Saturday 19 March, 11:00am – 3:00pm

PAL host three stalls on Open Day; BBQ, Devonshire Tea and Cake Stall. This is a great day to welcome prospective families into our school environment. Not only to showcase the wonderful curriculum and facilities within our school but also to demonstrate the very strong and inclusive culture that defines our parent community. In a few weeks you will receive an email with a link to the “TryBooking” system to register as a volunteer to assist on one of these stalls during Open Day. We appreciate any time you can spare on the day.

Open Day Cake Stall Working Bee:

There will be a working bee on Friday, 4 March at 9:30am – 12:00pm (approx) in the Boarders’ Dining Room to put together the cake ‘packs’ for the Open Day Cake Stall. The Open Day Cake Stall is an annual fundraiser organised on behalf of PAL and contributes to PAL’s fundraising goals for the year.

Kate Brown is organising the Cake Stall this year and would very much appreciate your help at the working bee if possible. All are welcome and Morning Tea will be provided. We will need at least 20 people so if you can spare any time at all, Kate would be very grateful.

The working bee is an excellent opportunity to get together, meet new parents and friends and get involved with the Loreto community. If you would like to be a part of the working bee please contact Kate Brown on 0407 408 908 or We look forward to seeing you there!

A great event where we have the chance to come together as City / Country mothers to re-connect, make new friends and share our stories over a casual meal, whilst also having the opportunity to hear from an interesting guest speaker. Our country team set a high benchmark last year creating the function theme and bringing this to life. The Boarders’ Dining Room was transformed into a wonderful country produce market, with fresh produce forming beautiful table arrangements and raffle prizes including beautiful country fare including; gourmet jams, wine and condiments. In addition, we heard from an inspiring guest speaker – Sally Davis from Bourke. Sally shared her story with us, providing great insights into rural life and her experiences as a Boarder mother at Loreto Normanhurst. Make sure you book early when this invitation arrives, as spaces are limited.

Don’t forget to diairise our first general PAL meeting for 2016 on Wednesday 24 February at 7.30pm in the Curran Theatre. Come along to hear firsthand from Ms Watkins about the wonderful start we have had for 2016 and the upcoming plans for the year ahead.

We hope to see you there , but feel free to contact either Louise or I in the meantime if you have any question in relation to PAL, we would love to hear from you:
