Years 7 and 8 Introduction to High School Debating Workshop

What a turnout! A total of 35 students attended the Introduction to High School Debating afternoon.

Led by our senior students, there were discussions about the differences in primary and high school debating and the roles of each speaker and then some new skills were put into practice. It was great to see such interest from our junior students and a big thank you to our senior students for delivering the workshop. Keep your eyes out for an Introduction to Public Speaking Workshop in Term 2.

CSDA and Archdale Debating

Registration has opened for both CSDA and Archdale debating. Please ensure that before your daughter registers, you take the time to confirm that the dates outlined for both competitions do not clash with existing commitments. It is important that students commit to their team and are available for training and debating competitions. The dates for both competitions are  available in the links below and information regarding fees, the selection process and training sessions are available in the Oratory Handbook . Any further questions can be directed to the Oratory Coordinator.

To register for debating, please use the following link.

Registrations close at the beginning of Week 7.

UN Youth Australia

Coaches and adjudicators

We are inviting ex-students and parents to be a part of the Oratory@LN team in 2018. We are looking for adjudicators and coaches and no experience is necessary, just simply an interest in all things oratory. You will need a Working with Children Check number.

If you are interested, please contact the oratory team via email.

Around the dinner table

This year’s topic areas for CSDA Public Speaking are:

  • Select, don’t settle…
  • With me in charge…
  • It gets better…
  • Just make it work!
  • It’s all just a little bit of history repeating…
  • Be not afraid…

Each family member can choose a topic and have a go at a two-minute impromptu speech! Don’t forget to consider the historical, social or religious contexts of some of these topics. Do you know where ‘Select, don’t settle’ comes from?

For further information, please refer to the Oratory Handbook  or contact us via   email.
