Archdale Debating Senior School Breakfast at Abbotsleigh
This week four Year 11 students attended the Archdale Debating Breakfast, hosted by Abbotsleigh. The guest speaker was Jarnae Leslie who is currently working on a PHD that is investigating Sustainable Futures.
Below is a short reflection on the event:
“On the 26th of February, we were lucky enough to attend a Sustainable Futures Breakfast event at Abbotsleigh with guest speaker Jarnae Leslie. Jarnae is currently at UTS in the Faculty of Transdisciplinary Innovation and is passionate about environmental sustainability and ethical futures development using creative practices.
Along with other students from many schools, we were able to listen to Jarnae and gain knowledge of the current sustainability problems facing our world today, in particular the climate crisis and waste production. She shared with us the root causes of these problems and why it is so difficult to solve them. Through sharing discussions with other students and critical thinking we were able to learn leadership skills, ethical living choices and how to work towards achieving our goals and passions concerning issues in society.
We were also informed about some very shocking statistics about waste production and climate change, and how we can help reduce and end these problems with critical thinking and teamwork.
Overall, the event taught us that if we are passionate about sustainability and working together as a society we can achieve many things.”

We are inviting ex-students and parents to be a part of the Oratory@LN team in 2020. We are looking for adjudicators and coaches and no experience is necessary, just simply an interest in all things oratory. You will need a Working with Children number.
If you are interested, please contact the oratory team via firstname.lastname@example.org
For any further information, there are a number of people that can help you. Students are encouraged to speak to the Academic Activities Leaders, their Tutors and Heads of House, and of course myself.
