It was a great turn out to the Extra-curricular Fair on Monday and it was wonderful to see so many students visit the Oratory stall. Thanks to Chris Woods, Dean of Extra-Curricular, for organising this fantastic event.
The art of speaking in a public form is an important skill that is becoming increasingly valued by employers. Being a public speaker or a debater increases your ability to think on your feet, present a reasoned argument, expand your general knowledge, foster empathetic thinking and increase your confidence.
If you have any further questions about the Oratory Program, please send through an email here.
To CSDA teams for their efforts last week. Round 1 against Riverview on a busy school day is a big ask and all teams did well.
To Erin Longney (Year 10) and Maanya Maini (Year 11), participating in the Plain English Speaking Awards on Tuesday.
To Tahlia Moses (Year 7) participating in the Zone Finals of Rostrum Voice of Youth on Wednesday.
CSDA will be aiming to begin with the coin toss at 6:00pm this week against Woolwich. We will return to our usual meeting space in the DRC. Students are reminded to be there for coaching at 3:30pm.
Archdale Debating begins on Tuesday 21 May. Please note that this is also a designated Academic Plenary evening and students who are in Archdale Debating teams will not be able to participate in the Academic Plenaries on this evening.
Evatt Youth NSW
Nominations have opened for Evatt Youth NSW for students in Years 9-12. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in debating, public speaking, current affairs and diplomacy to get involved in a UN style debate. Students are able to work in pairs of their own choosing.
Loreto Normanhurst is unable to provide supervision at these events, however we will provide training and support here at school.
There are a number of dates and venues available to choose from. Students have been emailed an online nomination link as well as information about the competition. It would be great to see a number of students participating in this event. To nominate for this event, please follow this link. For more information, please see the EVATT Youth NSW website.
