Year 7 and 8 Introduction to High School Debating Workshop

What a great turn out with a total of 30 students attending the high school debating workshop! Our senior students talked about the differences in primary and high school debating, discussed the roles of each speaker and then put some new skills into practice. It was great to see such interest from our junior students and a big thank you to our senior students for delivering the workshop. Keep your eye out for the Introduction to Public Speaking Workshop, coming soon.

CSDA and Archdale Debating

Registration has opened for both CSDA and Archdale debating. Please ensure that before your daughter registers, you take some time to ensure that the dates outlined for both competitions do not clash with existing commitments. It is important that students commit to their team and are available for training and debating. The dates for both competitions are attached to this article and information regarding fees, selection process and training sessions are available in the Oratory Handbook. Any further questions can be directed to the Oratory Coordinator.

To register for debating, please use the following link.

Registrations close at the beginning of Week 7.

UN Youth Australia

UN Youth Australia offers a number of programs through the year. These programs are designed to be fun, educational and give students a taste of UN work. The following opportunities have opened for registration. Please register your interest with Ms O’Dwyer before you complete your registration.

Coaches and Adjudicators

We are inviting ex-students and parents to be a part of the Oratory@LN team in 2019. We are looking for adjudicators and coaches and no experience is necessary, just simply an interest in all things oratory. You will need a Working with Children number.

If you are interested, please contact the oratory team via  oratory@loretonh.nsw.edu.au

Around the Dinner Table

This year’s topic areas for CSDA Public Speaking are:

  • ‘If you give me your attention, I will tell you what I am.’
  • ‘I’ve got a little list.’
  • ‘Ties.’
  • ‘The Sandpit.’
  • ‘I’m not making this up, you know!’
  • ‘The internet will end in an hour.’

A good idea is to put these topics in a hat, pull one out and have a go at a two-minute impromptu speech. Don’t forget to consider the historical, social or religious contexts of some of these topics. Do you know where ‘Select, Don’t Settle,’ comes from?

For further information, please refer to the Oratory@LN Handbook and or contact us at  oratory@loretonh.nsw.edu.au
