To the Mock Trial team who won against Tangara School in Round 2 of the competition. Our girls spent a considerable amount of time preparing for the trial and were convincing winners. The date of Round 3 will be announced soon.

To all students who were selected in a team for CSDA and Archdale debating. The calibre of students who are wanting to participant continues to strengthen every year. It is great to see the skills of our students developing and improving year to year.

CSDA will be aiming for a coin toss at 6:15pm this week. Please also note that due to plenaries, CSDA Round 2, will be coordinated from GBC 1.02, rather than the Deirdre Rofe Centre.

Archdale begins on Tuesday 22 May. Please note that this is also a designated Plenary evening. Students who are in Archdale teams will not be able to participate in Plenaries on this evening. We will be leaving for Loreto Kirribilli at 3:00pm.

Evatt Youth NSW

Nominations have opened for Evatt Youth NSW for students in Years 9-12. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in debating, public speaking, current affairs and diplomacy to get involved in a UN style debate. Students are able to work in pairs of their own choosing.

Loreto Normanhurst is unable to provide supervision at the events, however we will provide training and support at school.

There are a number of dates and venues available to choose from. Students have been emailed an online nomination as well as information about the competition. It would be great to see a number of students participating in this event. To nominate for this event, please follow this link. For more information, please see the EVATT Youth NSW website.

Primary Public Speaking and Debating Club

Based on the success of past years’ programs for debating, public speaking has now been included as an activity for primary students. We have lengthened the program and included a number of activities that will assist students both in and out of the classroom. We have been overwhelmed with interest and support from primary students and their families. Once again Year 10 Oratory students have nominated to work as mentors with the primary students. Thank you to the following students for giving up their time:

Year 10

  • Gian Ellis-Gannell
  • Maanya Maini
  • Isabella Greenhalgh
  • Charlotte Greenhalgh
  • Phillipa Studdert

Nominations and attendance and for Oratory

Please see attached the policy  for students in regards to nominations and attendance for Oratory. These changes are inline with those seen in other areas of the school. In order to ensure we foster a spirit of sportsmanship and skill development, it is important that we implement and maintain a consistent approach to nominations and attendance across the school’s extra-curricular program. Students will be briefed next week on the changes.

You will find a copy of this new policy here.
