Debating Trials

Thank you to all girls who participated in the debating trials for 2018. We have had an incredible number of students participating this year. Students will be emailed their results in the coming days. If your daughter does not make it onto a team this year, it is important to continue to encourage her to look for ways to strengthen her skills. Watching the news and discussing current affairs is a  worthwhile and simple way of doing this.

A reminder to all students who are selected in CSDA teams, that Round 1 begins Friday Week 1 of Term 2. Students who are in Year 8 must ensure  they have their school uniform to change into for their debates upon returning from camp. Round 1 CSDA will be held at Loreto Normanhurst with start times to be confirmed.

Public Speaking Workshops

This year Loreto Normanhurst will be offering public speaking workshops for students in  Years 7 and 8.

The workshops are scheduled to take place on Thursday 14 June from 3:30pm-4:30pm. It will be run by our senior students under the guidance of the oratory staff. Further information regarding this event will be sent out in Term 2.

CSDA Public Speaking

This week we acknowledged at the school assembly the incredible success of two of our public speakers, Stephanie Sardinha, Year 12, and Frances O’Brien, Year 7. It is fantastic to see students presenting ideas that raise important questions, although at times may be a little uncomfortable and confronting.  To read Frances’ speech, please click here.

We hope that you have had an enjoyable Term 1. Oratory@LN has seen some incredible moments so far this year and we look forward to Term 2 and the beginning of the debating season.

For further information regarding oratory, please contact the oratory staff at  oratory@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.
