NSW da Vinci Decathlon
On Tuesday 22 May, 16 Loreto Normanhurst students from Years 7 and 8, accompanied by Mrs Monica Watts, attended the NSW da Vinci Decathlon at Knox Grammar School.
The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students from all over the state participate in this competition.
Students compete in teams of eight (in their year group) across 10 disciplines: Engineering, Mathematics, Ideation, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Creative Producers, Cartography and General Knowledge. There is something for everyone as the disciplines range from writing poetry to cracking a code to creating the most innovative tablecloth design.
The theme for 2018 was The Unexpected. The girls met for a number of dynamic training sessions prior to the competition which they found to be fun and thought-provoking. They were also very enthusiastic on the day. Each year we give a different group of girls the opportunity to attend and this year the following girls represented Loreto:
|Jessica Barber||Olivia Alexander|
|Elli Barron||Loren Bambagiotti|
|Genevieve Bolster||Sarah Carrozzi|
|Young Yoon Oh||Clare Doherty|
|Josie Sims||Shanelle Perera|
|Elyse Stephens||Brigid Quirk|
|Jemma Vaughn||Sarah Roberts|
|Sophia Zybenko||Claudia Zybenko|
The girls were a credit to the school in their behaviour and effort. They enjoyed the opportunity to meet students from other schools, be academically challenged and have the opportunity to develop their team-building and time-management skills. Thank you to Mrs Watts for training the girls and for accompanying them on the day.
