New York Drama and Visual Arts Tour

New York Drama and Visual Arts Tour

On the 24th June 2016, 36 students and 6 x staff left Sydney as part of the New York Drama and Visual Arts tour and were immersed in the American culture for 2 weeks. The first few days were spent sightseeing the classic destinations of New York including Ground Zero, Chelsea, Top of the Rock and the highline. As a new week began the Visual Arts students attended the Parson’s New school of Design for 3 days, completing a photo book with images taken throughout the city, and then visited a variety of galleries and museums. The Drama students attended the world renowned Stellar Adler NY School of Acting for 5 days of intensive workshops. Drama students completed 2 x 3hour incredible workshops per day; classes included Improvisation, Scene Study, Voice and Speech, Adler technique and Movement/Physical Theatre. These classes helped us to develop essential skills and lots of great ideas that we have brought back home to show our peers. At night or on Sunday afternoons we were lucky enough to attend 4 x Broadway shows including The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, The Colour Purple, The Crucible and an American in Paris as well as an immersive off Broadway show  Fuerza Bruta. Overall, the trip was an amazing opportunity for both Drama and Visual Arts students as we were able to learn a variety of new skills whilst having an authentic experience of New York culture.
