Sr Deirdre Rofe IBVM OAM wrote of the first official Music Festival in 1972, “everyone who took part in it showed earnestness and thoroughness in preparation, excitement and enthusiasm in performance. It was one of the happiest musical evenings I have ever known.”
And our 2021 Music Festival at the end of Term 2 was no different!
This year, we were delighted to return to the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour for a spectacle that was bigger and better than ever. In the first half of the evening, audiences were treated to a lovely variety of performances, ranging from a full orchestra to a marimba solo and dance to Lady Gaga. The Boarder Choir, led by boarders Jordyn and Laura, tugged on many a heart string with their rendition of Home, by Phillip Phillips. The Primary School Choir also raised the roof with Bruno Mars’ Count on Me, a lovely introduction to the choral festivities that were to follow in Act Two.
A far cry from the Couch Choirs of 2020, though just as joy-filled, this year’s House Choirs proved their mettle by tackling favourites that paid homage to the Beatles, Bon Jovi and beyond. A special congratulations to:
- Mornane House – Best Choir (for their performance of High Hopes)
- Mulhall House – Spirit Cup
- Madeleine Campbell (Mornane) – Best Conductor
- Monica Teng (Barry) – Best Accompanist
Thanks to all our families and community members who supported students and staff by attending the event and adhering to COVID-safe protocol. We’re lucky to have been able to celebrate with so many of you before this latest NSW COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown.
