Loreto Rural Partnership Program
In December 2015 an exciting new program was launched for students in Year 10. The Loreto Rural Partnership is an immersion program that aims to provide a shared experience for students involved and to develop a reciprocal relationship between Loreto Normanhurst and NSW rural communities. The program involves the sharing of learning experiences, ideas, resources and specific skills between the respective communities, including school based activities such as drama, music, sport and ICT.
On December 8 in the first week of the holidays St Michael’s Parish School, Dunedoo. The whole school of 32 students and 14 staff and parents spent a night in the boarding house after a day of visiting the Mary Mackillop Centre. We spent the afternoon with five Loreto students who are members of the Loreto Rural Partnership team for 2016, engaging in a series of sporting activities. This was followed by a very exciting induction into the boarding dormitories and a meal in the Boarders’ Dining Room. After breakfast the students embarked on a trip to St Mary’s Cathedral and then enjoyed a matinee performance of Matilda before the drive home.
The second stage of this partnership will take place between 29 February and 4 March when six Year 10 students and two staff members will spend a week immersed in the community of St Michael’s Parish Dunedoo.
We are look forward to a long and fruitful partnership between Loreto Normanhurst and the communities of rural NSW.
