Western Sydney University Academy Access Award

Congratulations to Stephanie Sardinha of Year 12.  She was recently nominated by the school as the recipient of the Western Sydney University Academy Access Award for 2017.  Stephanie was nominated for this award due to her exemplary academic achievements throughout her time at Loreto Normanhurst, along with her dedication and determination with her studies.  This award entitles Stephanie to a HSC Study Grant for 2017 and a conditional Academic Excellence Scholarship for 2019 at Western Sydney University.   Stephanie and her parents were delighted to attend an award ceremony on the evening of Friday 8 December 2017 to receive this award.  Well done Stephanie – we are very proud of you and your achievements!

This week we spoke to Years 10-12 students on the first day of school about ICT expectations for 2018. We will also speak to Years 7- 9 students in due course.

For your information the following points were discussed.

  • We would like students  to take appropriate care of their laptop. This starts with using a carry case and being mindful of where they place their laptop when they are working.
  • We encourage students to take their laptop to the ICT Help Desk for minor issues so that they can hopefully be fixed under warranty or accidental damage.  This will ensure that they will have a fully operational laptop for three years.
  • It is important that students back up their work and check that their work is being fully synced to the cloud. We also suggest a backup of work to a hard drive at home.
  • Becoming a digitally organised learner is a skill which develops over time. We specifically discussed the need to use folders and perhaps rules in the their Outlook email and suggested developing the good structure for note taking  through the use of OneNote or folders and subfolders if the preference is to use Word documents.

Tuesday 6 February is Safer Internet Day 2018 .  #eSafety is important for all of us to understand and act upon and the 2018 theme is:

Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you

There is some useful information on the website.  The plan is to share some of these strategies with your daughters.
