Year 12

Over the coming weeks our Year 12 students will be preparing for graduation whilst consolidating their knowledge, learning and skills in preparation for the HSC examinations.  It is a very exciting time, but also a time that will be challenging and daunting for many.  We would like Year 12 to be aware that their teachers are available to support them in the coming weeks and months as their schooling draws to a close.

Many of our students have already begun their HSC examinations!  We congratulate Language students and also extend our prayers and thoughts to them, as they began their Language HSC practical examinations on Saturday 11 August and continue to undertake the exams across the coming weekends.  Our HSC practical examinations for Drama occur onsite on Monday and Tuesday next week and our Design and Technology and Visual Arts students officially submit their Body of Works and projects within the next few weeks.  We also extend our support and prayers to the Music students who will complete their HSC practical examinations in the coming weeks as well.  It is a very busy time for all students with the culmination of a year’s worth of work occurring in the coming weeks and we reassure all our Year 12 students that our thoughts and prayers are with them.

The Year 12 Graduation occurs in Week 9 on Friday 21 September.  This is the date that Year 12 officially graduate from Loreto and a time when the Loreto community acknowledges their success.  After this date Year 12 students are encouraged to attend school between Monday 15  October and the commencement of the HSC on Thursday 18 October to engage with their teachers and each other for revision purposes. We know from our historical data that if students collaborate in their preparation for the examinations, working together to improve, the results of the entire cohort benefit.  It does not pay for the girls to compete against each other – it is in their best interests to support each other and continue with what they do so well here at Loreto Normanhurst, collaborative learning.

Additionally, Year 12 students are advised to have a break in the last week of Term 3 from Monday 24 to Friday 28 September as they will not have access to the LRC or to their teachers during this week. Students are invited to study in the LRC throughout the HSC period in Term 4.

Please visit the NESA website   for key HSC dates, the HSC timetable and general study advice.

Best wishes to all our Year 12 students as they take on the final challenges of their schooling journey!

Years 7 and 9 NESA/ACARA School Readiness Testing

In preparation for proposed online NAPLAN testing in 2019, NESA /ACARA are undertaking NAPLAN School Readiness testing (SRT) in Term 3.  This testing will occur in all NSW schools that have the technological capability to implement the tests.  These tests do not replace the official NAPLAN tests conducted earlier in the year, they are preparation for 2019.

Years 7 and 9 students will undertake the testing on the morning of Monday 27  August.

The specific information you and your daughter need to know is as follows:

  1. There will be two sections for the READINESS TEST:
    1. OMNIBUS TEST – 1 hour (20 min introduction and 40 min test). The Omnibus Test contains a combination of reading numeracy and language conventions.
    2. WRITING TEST – 1 hour (20 min introduction and 40 min test).
  2. Years 7 and 9 students will use their laptops.
  3. All devices need to be fully charged prior to undertaking the test.
  4. Each student will need to bring headphones to take the tests.
  5. Students will take the tests using a locked down browser which will be downloaded at school.
  6. As this is a Readiness Test, student work will not be marked and therefore there will be no results available.
  7. Test samples are available on this link.
  8. NESA has produced a factsheet for parents and carers on the NAPLAN Readiness test which is available on this link.

We are asking parents and students to view this testing as a positive opportunity to engage with online testing strategies.  If you have any question, please contact the Learning Office.
