Year 12 Academic Plenaries

Academic Plenaries are opportunities for students, supported by teachers, to share their learning progress with their parents and receive valuable feedback.  Teachers will be available for 5 minute meetings on the 19th February 2021 from between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.  The plenaries will be held via Zoom and only one booking per teacher can be made for each student.

Please click to view the following PDF links for further information on the finer details of the process. All necessary information is included in these three documents.

Reservations for the Plenary meetings are made online through the PTO Website.  When booking your plenaries, if your daughter is a day student, please factor in the time it will take for her to travel home, so that she is able to attend the Zoom Plenaries with you.  The PTO website is will be opened on Monday 15th February at 11am and will remain available for you to access your teacher Zoom meeting links at the time of your meeting.  You will be able to change your PTO appointment times until 10am on the 19th February.

If there are any changes that need to be made after this time, please email the Learning Office.  All parents are encouraged to book PTO Zoom Plenary meetings and if there are circumstances that prevent you from conducting meetings using the Zoom format, please contact your daughter’s Head of House.

We thank you for your assistance. Please email learning@loretonh.nsw.edu.au if you have any questions.

Year 10 Minimum Standard Testing

The NSW Government announced that from 2020, all Year 12 students must reach a minimum standard of functional literacy and numeracy to receive the HSC Certificate.  The reason for this is to help ensure that all students leave school with the necessary skills to achieve success in life.  To meet this benchmark, students are given the opportunity to undertake the 3 online tests when they enter Year 10.   The official testing for Minimum Standards for our school will take place on the mornings in Week 5, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 February.

In preparation for the Minimum Standard Testing, a special Lock Down browser is being installed on students’ laptops by the school.  Next week, your daughter will be given the opportunity to complete Reading, Numeracy and Writing Practice Tests in class.

We wish to reassure you that if your daughter is not successful at meeting the Minimum Standard benchmark after the first tests, she will be fully supported and will continue to be offered to sit in the test rounds until she qualifies, prior to the end of Year 12.

Below please find links providing additional key information from NESA which may be of interest to you.  If you have any further information, please email the Learning Office.

AAS Testing Catch-up

Upon commencement at Loreto Normanhurst all students are required to complete a series of educational tests in Mathematics, Reading Comprehension, Spelling and Written Expression.  These tests are conducted on behalf of the school by Academic Assessment Services (AAS) and provide valuable information about the progress of our students. There is no requirement to study or prepare for these assessments. The results, in conjunction with other results from students’ ongoing assessments, help us to plan more effectively to meet the needs of students and the year group as a whole.

While the majority of Year 7 students undertook this testing last November during Orientation, the remainder of students will participate in a catch-up testing day on Thursday 18th February.

Students who are required to undertake this testing are:

  • Year 7 Boarding students
  • Year 7 students who were absent for the AAS test last year
  • Years 8 – 11 new students

If your daughter is involved she will receive further information regarding the testing.
