Year 12 HSC Preparation

Firstly, we would like to wish Year 12 all the best as they process the amazing events of the past few days.  They have been working diligently and certainly deserve the beautiful farewell that they have received.

Secondly, we think it timely to send a few words of wisdom out to students and parents at this time of the year.  Please note that there is tremendous opportunity now for consolidation of the learning that has taken place over the past year.  Students are advised to be sure to look for any gaps or areas for improvement and begin revising their work in order to address these areas.  It is often tempting to revert to the areas of study that make you feel comfortable – the areas that you know well.  Whilst this can be comforting, it will not lead to growth.  True growth comes when we acknowledge the areas that require attention, accept feedback on these areas, and work deliberately to address these areas.

Year 12 students, the key to achieving growth in the lead up to the HSC is to avoid panic, set clear goals, work deliberately towards these goals and engage with your teachers for feedback.  We cannot emphasise enough the value in engaging in deliberate practice and completing past papers and practice questions during the weeks ahead.

Also, a message for Year 12 students: a reminder that next week is a week of rest for you all – you will not be able to attend school to access your teachers for support.  Please take a few days to rest initially, and then use the time to work independently or collaboratively with peers at each other’s houses or at the local library (or for boarders, via skype/google etc).   It is important that you then send your work via email to your teachers to obtain feedback.  Your teachers will be available first week back of next term and throughout the HSC if you need support.  We look forward to seeing you all next term.
